About Me

Jeff Wiens (pronounced weens) has been playing music and writing songs since the mid-80's. In the early 90's, you could've caught him playing grunge-country with his old band mate Mark Bilyeu of Big Smith (who produced and plays guitar on the new solo CD Cairn ) in southwest Missouri and Northern Arkansas, or writing songs in Austin, Texas. But Wiens eventually chose to work from the high country of Colorado, and as a result we all get to indulge in a new kind of Rocky Mountain High.
As mentioned, Cairn is finally here. Begun in 2002, the CD features Jeff's songwriting and acoustic guitar playing and the talents of not only Mark Bilyeu, but Todd Mincks, Kenny Wirt, Molly Healey, Eric Leick, Marcus Chatman, Bill Thomas, Ray Castrey, Joe Terry, Dave Harp, Dave Wilson, John Prescott and Bill Hartman.
Cairn is also now available as a complete download with a bonus track here . Or you can download individual tracks here .
Jeff also sculpts stone and writes fiction. You can check it all out at www.jeffwiens.com .
Cairn is also available via iTunes and CDBaby.

Sounds Like: My guess is, that you can hear all the artists that influence me in my music if you listen hard enough. Thom Yorke of Radiohead mixed with Neil Young, David Byrne (Talking Heads), CSN, David Bowie and a little Bread, Cat Stevens and/or Seals and Croft thrown in. Certainly the country vibe has received help from Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Bill Monroe and Hank Williams. I love to funk it up, too, like James Brown, Luscious Jackson and Beck. I think there's some Beatles in there too. Some Richard Thompson. Even The Clash. And the more stripped down folks like Sun Kil Moon, Red House Painters, Tom Waits early stuff, Will Oldham, Nick Drake and Freedy Johnston. And, I have to admit, I never turn the dial when Coldplay, Foo Fighters or James Blunt come on. So, I'm sure they're in there too. You tell me...visit www.jeffwiens.com and take a listen.
