LP2 is in the pipeline...

About Me

The beginnings of the SIDEWINDER sound were fuelled by a soundtrack of deep beats, dub reggae, jazz and techno whilst I was studying at Glasgow School of Art, a decade ago. Having experimented with borrowed 4 track tape recorders, drum machines and FX boxes at school, the next step was to blow a student loan on an AKAI sampler and start to piece together some charity shop, jazz influenced, cut and paste tracks. A string of singles for Glasgows fledgling Fenetik Music followed, including the massive jazz-dance track Stanway's Revenge which was championed by DJs like Kruder and Dorfmeister, Jazzanova and Groove Armada, who licensed it to their 50 000 selling All Back To Mine mix album in 2000.

Cut to autumn 2003, and my debut album RESOLUTION finally appeared, preceded by the funk propelled 7 single EGO RIOT, which caused some serious dance floor mayhem from San Francisco to Stockholm.
At the same time, I was asked to participate in an extraordinary collaborative project put together by The Arches in Glasgow and the British Council in Brazil, which would start a lengthy affair with South America. ORQUESTRA SCOTLAND BRASIL brought together 8 Scottish and 8 Brazilian musicians of diverse musical styles, with the aim of writing and performing new music together. Over the course of 3 weeks in Sao Paulo city, and with the clock ticking against us, we produced a unique 2-hour show that was performed to sell out audiences for 5 nights. The subsequent UK leg at the end of 2003 was equally exciting with the band playing all over Scotland, and finishing with a spectacular sell out show at the Bush Hall in London.

Since then it would seem that aside from the odd remix, that SIDEWINDER has disappeared. But thats not the case. Following a grant from the Scottish Arts Council in 2004 a series of new projects are in development including a sample heavy follow up to RESOLUTION and a sample free, latin-jazz-funk inspired album which is being written and recorded with a new seven piece band, who made their London debut, headlining the jazz café in Camden last year. Having spent the last six months living in São Paulo city, traveling around Brazil and soaking up as much culture as possible I'm back in the UK and pushing forward with a head full of new rhythms and an eye on the next step forward.
