Jazz Odyssey

I'm not about to do a free-form jazz exploration in front of a festival crowd!

About Me

What can I say? Frustrated musician, real job, routine life, but with some moments with flashes of magnificence!

My Interests

I like music. Right now transferring my music into digital form. I used to play guitar, bass and sing back in the day. I also used to mountain bike and sort of surf. I'm thinking on getting back on my bike again this summer and drop some pounds!

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet a bunch of people, but when I think about it, there wouldn't be much happening after meeting them, so I thought "with whom would I actually enjoy hanging out?" Weird Al and Conan O'Brien would be fun. Talking to Roy Z. would be interesting I think. Alexandra Wentworth too.

Music:

All kinds! I'm a metalhead at heart, but like all sorts of stuff. Amongst my favorite bands/musicians are: Iron Maiden, Rush, The Beatles/Paul McCartney, The Police, the original Santana band (first three albums), Mel Tormé, Sabbath, Dio, Tribe Of Gypsies... All sorts of stuff though. I'm one of those "music appreciators" with a lot of useless knowledge about it in my brain.

Movies:

I like movies too! The usual stuff like the Godfather trilogy, Star Wars, etc. I like Christopher Guest films (A Mighty Wind, Best In Show), and I'm a sucker for good documentaries. The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill is a recent favorite.

Television:

I have very few TV shows that I really really like. My all time favorite TV show is Barney Miller, and I was lucky to tape most of the series from its latest TV Land run about three years ago. My friend Prairie Starr made me copies on VCD since no DVD release seems imminent. I like the Monty Python series and recent favorites are Frasier (pre-Niles and Daphne hooking up), and a couple of the Law & Order shows. Late Night With Conan O'Brien. SpongeBob Squarepants.

Books:

I used to read all the time, but now the smaller the books the better, and if they have mostly pictures even better! Actually I still like to read. I like biographies, history stuff, philosophy and religion stuff too. I used to be pretty fascinated by all the Carlos Castaneda stuff, and still like it a lot. Oh yeah, and true crime!

Heroes:

Probably someone like Mother Theresa or something.

My Blog

So much for doing my part for the environment!

Well, it was for the environment, but also for my own pocket.  Thing is, gas prices are ridiculously high, so I decided to finally take advantage of my ECO Pass (VTA = bus) and commuter check (BA...

How NOT to entertain yourself during your long commute!

As all of you know (LOL), I have a long commute to and from work everyday.  This morning, I thought the cloud formation was pretty cool, so I grabbed my camera while driving, stuck my hand out an...

Great find at the used music store today!

Well, I knew I was going to have to get back to doing something to this page at some point.  14 months is not that long between updates! Well, not a lot has changed.  I suppose I should...

Now I really feel old!

In all honesty, I don't think I'm old.  I certainly don't feel old, but I'm officially at the point where there are adults walking the earth who would consider me old.  I've had two events i...

Benefits of an iPod - Sad realizations - My CD collection

Hello my readers!  I recently got a 2-gig iPod Nano and it's really cool.  For my purposes, it's way to small storage space-wise, but I've been able to load it up with a whole bunch of favor...

I finally know what a pre-recorded, store-bought MD looks like

That's as in Mini Disc of course!  I've loved the format for the past 10-11 years or so.  Sadly, it never caught on.  I thought it was the coolest thing that Sony got Max Weinberg as a ...

I was going to get back to this at some point!

I'm just lazy.  Not much happening lately.  I went to a Nine Inch Nails concert two weekends ago, so I'll have to write about that.As was the case last time, I need to go to bed!...

Can you teach an old dog new tricks?

What do you put in here anyway?  I can't post a picture because of an error with the uploader or even view my newly updated profile?  As a matter of fact, I seem to have lost the about me an...
