Surfing the Tao to a world of love, peace and harmony

About Me

“Surfing the Tao” is a phrase created in an attempt to nutshell what could be the most important aspect of spiritual truth, or the Way of Life. A reader once sent me a great quote, “It is a lot like surfing... you catch a wave by being prepared, timing your move and having your board in position. Like surfing, you have some control, but the Flow has all the power.” Since I live in Hawaii the analogy seemed appropriate; and indeed there is a certain zen to the sport. If you’re just hearing about “Surfing the Tao” here are a few bullet points. It’s not about any particular religion; it’s about how we choose to live each moment, although it does contain spiritual concepts from all corners of the world. We can argue endlessly about who is ‘right’ – but in so doing we could be missing the point. Each person has their own path to walk, and we all find truth in our own ways. However, as our greatest sages have remarked, eventually our paths will all converge on the Great Path. Our great spiritual teachers have all encouraged love in the search for enlightenment. Many have defined “God” (or Tao, Father, Force, Beloved, Brahman, Great Spirit; whatever) as that flowing consciousness of love, the goal being to become “one” with this Force. So the basic idea of “Surfing the Tao” is choosing love for direction of your actions. The truth is simple – not easy, but simple. Still your mind and instead listen to your spiritual nature, that which is connected to the Tao, the Force. Allow the Tao to flow through you, and hop on for the ride of your life. Use various methods – you can use a long board or a short board, right-footed or left, but you’re still allowing the wave to carry you.Surfing is an individual sport, and Surfing the Tao is a silent, inner revolution of spirit. The outer world will not provide the whole answer. Truth is within you; amplify the Voice by tuning in to love. Then, one person at a time, we can change our reality to one of peace and harmony... "

I am hesitant to admit that a profound spiritual experience propelled me to start writing, because it wasn't the experience that was so unique, but what I discovered when I looked back out into the world. I realized that a massive Machiavellian misdirection by our world's belief systems had hijacked our ability to see truth within ourselves. Instead, people were either ignoring the spiritual altogether, or simply swallowing what others had set before them, without further thought. The human race was losing its connection to its Spirit, and therefore its ability to discern the real truth, especially in terms of the strange and unexplained.
"The Master observes the world, but trusts his inner vision." -Lao Tzu
Ever wonder if there was a book that put it all together – ‘God’, UFOs, secret societies, sacred science, inconsistencies in the Bible, similarities to other spiritual teachings, Jesus, the end of the world, the power of love, the frequency of being – plus a Way to live through it all in peace? Maybe you have a handle on it all – but know someone who doesn’t? Surfing the Tao is an attempt to nutshell all the strange goings-on in our world together with a Way to do something about it. Don’t lose your faith; crystallize it with a higher perspective - Surf the Tao!"Because it is sometimes so unbelievable the truth escapes becoming known." -Heracleitus

You may remember the story of how the devil and a friend of his were walking down the street, when they saw ahead of them a man stoop down and pick up something from the ground, look at it, and put it away in his pocket. The friend said to the devil, "What did that man pick up?" "He picked up a piece of the truth," said the devil. "That is a very bad business for you, then," said his friend. "Oh, not at all," the devil replied, "I am going to help him organize it." -Krishnamurti .. Movies:

I am a total movie buff and love hundreds of movies - I used to live in LA and work in the movie business so I was used to being in the loop and having access to early releases, indie films, etc...now in Hawaii that is sadly not the case, so it's Netflix all the way. But here are a few movies I could watch over and over again (and have): Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars IV, Groundhog Day, The Fifth Element, Stargate, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, An Affair to Remember

Television:

Heroes, Medium, Ghost Whisperer, Grey's Anatomy, CSI, Boston Legal, NCIS, Battlestar Gallactica, Stargate SG-1, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Firefly, Late late with Craig Ferguson, The Dog Whisperer, and everything on the Food Network

Books:

Surfing the Tao: A Revolution of Free Will, Tao Te Ching, the Upanishads, The Art of Peace, The Tao of Physics, anything by Rabindranath Tagore ("Gitanjali") and Krishnamurti, "Christ: The Eternal Tao" by Hieromonk Damascene, "Rule by Secrecy" and "Alien Agenda" by Jim Marrs, "Children of the Matrix", etc. by David Icke, "Angels Don't Play This HAARP" by Nick Begich, "Science and the Akashic Field" by Ervin Laszlo, "The Harmonic Conquest of Space" and "The Energy Grid" by Bruce Cathie, "HAARP: The Ultimate Weapon of the Conspiracy" by Jerry E. Smith

Heroes:

Jesus: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself."Buddha: "Look within. Be still. Free from fear and attachment, Know the sweet joy of the way."Lao Tzu: "True wisdom seems foolish."Rabindranath Tagore: "Thou hast made me endless, such is thy pleasure. This frail vessel thou emptiest again and again, and fillest it ever with fresh life..."Krishnamurti: "I maintain that Truth is a pathless land..."Ueshiba: "The life force is all-pervasive and its strength boundless. "Who is wise? He will realize these things. Who is discerning? He will understand them." - Hosea 14:9 "The kind man does something, yet something remains undone. The just man does something, and leaves many things to be done. The moral man does something, and when no one responds he rolls up his sleeves and uses force." - Tao Te Ching, #38"In the Kali Age there will be many false religionists...And Dharma becomes very weak in the Kali Age, and people commit sin in mind, speech and actions...Quarrels, plague, fatal diseases, famines, drought and calamaties appear...People...are wicked, full of anger...greedy, untruthful...Earth will be valued only for her mineral treasures. Money alone will confer nobility. Power will be the sole definition of virtue. ..This in the Kali Age humankind will be utterly destroyed." -Hindu scripture"Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains...many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved." - Matthew 24:4-13"Free Hugs" - a true story
