Detroit Radio Deejays, “The All New Flavor Show”
It’s popping with pandemonium, rocking with ruckus, and booming with bodacious banter. It’s a spectacular meteor that stupefies as it lights up the radio landscape in the form of The Hot Boyz, starring Sean Anthony and Keith Jones—the in-studio microphone marvels who’ve ambushed Motown with mayhem, melee and madness.
“Our show is the most dynamic, entertaining, funny, unpredictable show that you will ever witness,” says Anthony of the highly-rated, widely-listened-to program, ‘The All New Flavor Show,”on HOT 102.7 FM. To which Jones, his comical cohort, cracks: “Our show is more than entertainment. It’s breaking the crutches of traditional radio. It’s the hip-hop version of Jerry Springer.”
Jones and Anthony met at the audio intersection of Fate and Destiny. The two would intersect their untamable talents in the middle of Buckeye country, a Columbus, Ohio Radio One station, WXKC 107.5. The conservative city couldn’t contain their hilarious hi-jinks. So Radio One rolled them up into Wolverine territory, where they partake in pranks unknown to previous generations of radio listeners weekdays from 6-10 p.m., and Saturdays from 2-6 p.m. “We’re going to give you the drama of the ‘hood, the cheating of the spouse, the breaking up with the boyfriends, the ‘somebody-owes-me-money,” says Jones, a jocular jackrabbit. “We bring the drama to night-life radio.” Even now, the Hot Boyz are trimming off the tresses of a female listener who came in to get some coveted tickets. The city offers the perfect backdrop to the Hot Boyz’s comedy, which is like a shook-up soda can with the top ripped off.
“I’ve seen many different cities and Detroit has its own vibe,” says Anthony, who speaks in fuel-injected spurts. “It’s a whooooooooole vibe of its own. No one has Detroit’s vibe. No one.”
So much so, that they can’t be touched.
