Uncle Sam Aka Mr. Sam

Born in Ft. Lauderdale and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, Uncle Sam aka Mr. Sam is an artist that you can’t forget. His singing bird skills incorporating Reggae and Soca influences make people scratch their head into thinking,” The boy is wicked, Now who is he and where did he come from?” With his first album,” Dem Ting Deh”, out in 2005, the second one to be released in 2008 and a collaboration album, puts Sam in the front runner for the next up and coming artist of the century.Mr. Sam born as Ryan was immersed into the music scene as a young child and in the 80’s landed a reoccurring gig at a skating rink as a house Dj while attending his local high school. “ I was working two jobs at the time. My release was Djing while spinning the latest records I purchased for that week. The pleasure was seeing the entire dance floor packed with no one standing around. This is where you knew if you had skills or not.” Sam got a call from a friend stating a local big sound system Tri-Star was looking for a new selector. He jumped at the opportunity. Sam resided with the sound djing along side the likes of Renaissance, Bodyguard, Stone Love, Lees Unlimited, Black Chiney and the list goes on until he realized that the best thing for him to do was to go back to school and get a college degree.While attending college at UCF (University of Central Florida) another sound was in the market for a selector and Sam jumped on it again. The original Black Star Sound from Jamaica needed another selector and Sam landed that gig for a couple years djing alongside sounds from Miami all the way to New York. Years passed and the sound thing took a side step when Sam was at a dance. The Dj flipped over the record to the instrumental and passed him the microphone to a packed house. When he touched a piece of a song the crowd was in frenzy and this is where he first found his pathway in life.Uncle Sam took it a step further and joined a band called Damage Band where he improved his craft and later interviewed for a residential job at Bob Marley’s at Universal, City walk, Orlando. This jump started his career allowing the privilege of singing in festivals and other large events with a band called Mystik NRG. As years went by, Sam put his own band together while taking the stage along side artists like Lady Saw, Macka Diamond, Frankie Paul, Allison Hinds, Rupee, T-Vice, Carimi and the list goes on and on. One particular event was at the FIU Angostura Fete 2005 when the Famous Byron Lee and the Dragonaires spotted his performance. Byron got in touch with Sam and the rest is history.Uncle Sam traveled with Byron Lee to perform at Jamaican Jerk Festival in Miami, Jamaica Road March, Chukka Cove 2006, Richmond estates in 2007, Batabano Cayman Islands, Dominica Creole Festival and the list goes on. Working back and forth with Leon Coldero and Byron Lee allowed Sam to work up and down the North East coast hitting all Carnivals and Festivals from Detroit to Miami.
