Brad Smith is one of the founding fathers of Electronic Dance Music in Florida since it's very beginning. He has been playing mind-bending electronic music for 17 years and is the owner and C.E.O. of the underground label, Crescent Records. Brad produces and spins Tech House, Electro House, Progressive House and Tribal House. Brad has 167 releases under his belt since 1994 making him one of the most productive artist in the world. Brad started his career in the underground Acid House and hardcore scene in 1990 at WBUL in Tampa. In 1992, Brad began his club djing career at the infamous "Rave-O-Ween" spinning what later became known as Jungle and today as Drum and Bass; alongside djs Dave Seaburn, Three and Chang (all of which are Brad's idols and mentors). Brad has held residencies at 100's of clubs across Florida including The Parthenon, The Abyss, The Edge, 911, Infinity, The Masquarade, Ultraviolet, The Rubb and Luna Lounge (to name only a few).
Brad started writing and recording music in 93, being taught by the legendary Rob Intile (Lovecraft's writer, producer, engineer and singer). Brad released his first record in 1995 on his own imprint, Crescent Records. Since then, he has released 210 tracks, 9 CDs and over 60 remixes on numerous labels: Toolbox(UK), DarkWax (UK), Moonshine, Panadisc, Stickman, Xquisit, Painted Puppy, Streetbeat, Version 3.0 and Breakzlogik Records [to name only a few]. Brad journey in the studio has lead him to make Drum n Bass, Trance, UK Hardhouse and even Breakbeat before finding his niche in Ttechy Minimal Electro House.
In 1995, Brad really started to expand his musical realms while djing at the infamous Parthenon (Tampa's biggest and best late night club ever) along with fellow dj, mentor and roommate Dj John Panapolous (Tampa's legendary DJ). John broaded Brad's mind by educating him in the best of House and Progressive House as well as teaching him about the vinyl market and business of the major record labels and record pools. John also taught Brad how to perfect his djing skills, which lead Brad to become one the the nations best mixers.
In 1997, Brad single-handedly won his club, Luna Lounge, best dance club of the year. Brad was the only dj at the venue, playing his legendary 5 hour sets of house, trance and breaks every Saturday for 3 years to a standing room only packed house!!!
In 1998, Brad, under his moniker, DJ Praying Mantis worked alongside with Dj Dread on several hot DnB productions. He and Dread started the infamous Stateside collective crew. Shortly after, both Brad and Dread left the Collective due to a differnce in vision with the other newer members. Today, Dread and Brad continue to collaborate, writing some of the best DnB tracks in the US.
In 2000, Brad started his mash-up/remix label, Mr. Smith's DJ Tools, with partner DJ Spice. The huge success of these white-labels reached across the globe helping to spread Hard Dance and UK Hardhouse with a blend of breakbeats to the US and found their way into the record bags of Paul Oakenfold and Dj Icey (to name only a few). They also set sales records with their original works released on Spice's Version 3.0 and Breaklogikz record labels.
In 2006, Brad released 87 new tracks, 2 tracks almost every week for the entire year. Drum & Bass, Trance or Breaks tracks on every Monday and House tracks on every Thursday. Be on the lookout for Brad's house remix under his moniker Mantis (99th Floor Evelators- "I'll Be There" Mantis house remix) coming out this year on Toolbox House (UK) and "The Bad Man" under his moniker Praying Mantis on Dark Wax Digital (UK). Brad continues touring the world, spreading his infectiuos grooves across the globe.
In 2007, Brad continues to be one of the most productive house music artist in the world with a collaboration sub-label with Dj Chang!!!!
