Band Members: "What kind of music do you play?" Now, they don't have my category of music up as an option here yet, I like to call it Nordic Blues. I play guitar in FULMINATE TRIO: a guitartrio that through original pieces of music of various compositional/improvisational designs evoke sonic poltergeists and other intense forces w. Michael Evans-drums, electronics, various instruments & Ken Filiano-bass + electronics. ANDERS NILSSON'S AORTA (my Swedish band - we play my compositions and/or make it up on the spot), FAY VICTOR ENSEMBLE (original works where lyrics and vocal/instrumental flights are interwoven) GUNNAR: 30-somethings guitartrio making sludgy sounds, with mouths open on ocassion w. Reid Taylor-el.bass, Madhu Siddappa-drums), IN THE OZONE: freedom with one of a kind-drummer Tom Bruno & bassist Matt Heyner, UNDER SATAN'S SUN, JÖTNAR, MANAPE, as well as in other constellations that my blog and gig list will keep you abreast of. I also enjoy doing SOLO guitar performances and recordings.
Influences: The heaviest influence you can get is going to see something live and getting a kick out of it, a LIVE performance that blows you away/touches you! B.B. King at Nordform, Malmö '90, Pharaoh Sanders at the Knitting Factory '99, an all-night flamenco festival in a village outside of Granada, Spain '01, Michael Evans/Susan Hefner at Roulette '05, Fred Frith solo at the Stone '06 - stand out. Much respect to my family, collaborators, and great friends, People who mean what they say + listen and are able to be flexible and re-evaluate every day, Articulation, surprises, paradoxes, things people say, nature, freaks. Musicians:.........Guitarists: Buddy Guy, Debashis Bhattacharya, Frank Zappa, Fred Frith, John McLaughlin, Kirk Hammett, Peter Green, Raoul Bjorkenheim, Sonny Sharrock, Yngwie Malmsteen and more......Anton Webern, Aretha Franklin, Bernard Herrmann, Black Sabbath, Elvin Jones, Gary Peacock, Jack DeJohnette, J.S. Bach, Keith Jarrett, Loincloth, Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, Mccoy Tyner, The Melvins, Meshuggah, Miles Davis, Mustafa Kandirali, Olivier Messiaen, Pharoah Sanders, Radka Toneff, Tony Clifton along with several lesser known greats and originals, some of with which I play. A select few important records I've listened to very, very much include:
John Coltrane Quartet "The European Tour" (recorded live in Stockholm in 1963), Frank Zappa "Joe's Garage" a masterpiece!, Anton Webern "6 Pieces for Orchestra" (opus 6) performed by the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Karajan. Anything can be an influence - a comment, taste, bad taste, new experiences, articulate subversive action is influential, Vikings (I guess), Twin Peaks, film noir in general, Sture Dahlstrom, Henry Miller, Bruce Lee, clothing, pinball, food, cooking, wines, focus, qi-gong, dedication, one-liners, ladies, gore and so on...........My ruling planet is Ecstasy!
Sounds Like: "Nilsson's shimmering axe evokes a dimensional warp." (Signal to Noise) "Nilsson has a very personal style and a tone unlike any American jazz player I can think of." (All About Jazz)
