The gods of muse smiled favourably when this quartet of well known Adelaide musicians decided to unite under one banner in the name of rock’n’roll – mixing a debauched cocktail of equal parts attitude, urgency, desperation and shit on the liver.
Featuring current and ex members of some of Adelaide’s most respected rock acts (The Gels, Muscle Car, Blow Up Betty, Angelik), it took more than pedigree to gain the boot-stomping approval of a music loving city blessed with a weekly overflow of gigs – both local and visiting interstaters. Armed with a set of original guitar driven, no-holds-barred tunes, yet with enough hook and melody to capture the attention of all walks of rock listenership, the Dead Popes of the Vatican quickly established an attentive following.
Having racked up nearly 50 scorching performances in a relatively short while, a thirsty and expectant audience demanded (and now receives) the ‘Popes much anticipated EP It’s A Long Way To The Vatican If You Wanna Be The Pope.
Featuring four fist-raising anthems transgressing one’s own wonderment at (continuing?) mental stability, criminal intent and a poke at some artists self indulgence, this (mostly) live-in-the-studio offering is as important as it contagious; urgent as it is honest.
