Adelaide's premier original all-chick band Blow Up Betty have a come a long way since their inception in 2003. With various line up and musical style changes, Blow Up Betty have emerged from the brink of self-destruction to become one of Adelaide's highest regarded acts.
Blow Up Betty deliver a total rock purists dream - full of attitude, sweet melodies, top-notch musicianship and kick ass rock. What else could one want?
After winning 5 SAMI awards (including Most Outstanding Drummer and Most Outstanding Female Vocalist), claiming the number 2 position on Three D Radio's annual Top 100+1, touring Melbourne and the South East, playing shows with Grinspoon and Mach Pelican, reaching the state finals of the NCBC for the third year running, playing the Adelaide Fringe and a slot on the Taste of Chaos tour in Adelaide in 2006, one can only wonder what the future will bring!
The girls have kicked off 2007 with a bang, scoring a spot on the bill for the MTV Kickstart State Finals, and launching their highly anticipated second EP 'Asking For Trouble' (with the single 'Just Not In My Arms' currently airing on Triple J) to a near-capacity crowd at the Governor Hindmarsh in April. May sees the girls launch their new EP on iTunes, while locked away in distribution discussion with various labels and (on the side) planning a 20-date tour in December. One thing is for sure- Blow Up Betty is the all-girl rock force you always heard about and will now dare to experience!

What the nice people have to say about ---BLOW UP BETTY---
" They say it themselves- the whole chick rock thing has been done a million times before. So why should you listen to Blow Up Betty? Lets start with the fact that theyre one of Adelaides brightest and fastest-rising young bands. Then well point out that theyve been creating quite a buzz around town, even nabbing awards already. Then theres the tight sound, the melodic rock, the fun vibe"-----Lauren McMenemy-The Advertiser
"Blow Up Betty impressed me in that they are different from other all girl punk outfits... they don't need to try to be cool, they simply are! They rollicked through their set with energy and enthusiasm, but their songs have more depth and interest than their genre-mates including the Spazzy's and Skulker."-----Kim Roberts-MusicSA
"Generally, all-girl bands seem to have a certain look... Blow Up Betty manage to avoid the clich black boots and spiked collars girls seem to adopt to look like tough rock stars"-----Ryan Smith-dB Magazine
"If I was in the mood to jump up and down on my bed or clean a much neglected room, I'd use Blow Up Betty's 2005 self-titled EP as my soundtrack...Sensitive dynamic range and well-timed pauses make these songs interesting to listen to and most importantly, easy to dance to! Or nod your head to in a rock n' roll way!"-----Miss Lampshade-MusicSA
BLOW UP BETTY...an all-girl howling full throttle punkrock band... they thrash away the kinda f**koff in-ya-face riot grrrrl insanity that'd put pissy little amateur acts like Hole, The Distillers or The Donnas in the dust..and sure they may look like goofy midgets recently escaped from Santa's Workshop on a sugar fueled killing spree thru a toystore after dark...but daaamn do they rock!-----Spoz- http://spoz.blogspot.com (08/2006)
Blow Up Bettys Shes A Gonna is one that really stands out. It has a real pop vibe to it, but still retains a bit of dirty girly sleaze that is quite fresh to listen to-----Nix Crichton- purerawk.co.uk (08/2006)
Blow Up Betty- catchy-Aussie-chicks-meets-Hole-except-they-can-sing. And I hear The Bangles in there too-----Anna C- www.repeatfanzine.co.uk (08/2006)
Girl Power! Its bloody tops to see Adelaide going through a resurgence of
sorts with all these killer bands emerging and even better still they’re all
doing great things. Watch out for all girl band Blow Up Betty – not only are
they drop dead gorgeous but their EP Asking For Trouble is something else.
I’m surprised that not one of the majors have battered an eye lid yet with
these young ladies who ooze talent, are easy on the eye and are brim full of
attitude to boot. This EP rocks along at turbo pace with the motto ‘let’s
rock and piss off’...Listening to these tracks does bring flash backs of
seeing all girl bands such as The Donnas and The Sahara Hotnights and even
Veruca Salt...Watch out for Blow Up Betty as 2007 is theirs-----FasterLouder.com.au (05/2007)
This is pop-punk pure and simple. I could easily imagine it as the sorta soundtrack you'd use in EVERY teen TV drama or high school movie during that requisite scene where the geeky on the outside Cinderella stereotype breaks up with her geeky on the inside Prince Charming stereotype...it's damn f**koff catchy and effective for what it is. As such, most songs fit rather neatly into a simple fists-in-the-air formula: interchange sung and screamed verse/chorus on simple concepts of LOVE vs HATE, throw in some "Oi Oi Oi" style loutish backups, hammer it in with punchy stop-start guitar riff attacks, fat thumbing bass hooks, stabby-stabby drums and then drill it all flaming into the ground for 2-3 minutes before you run out've oxygen and die...everything's delivered sharp, abrupt and punchy without much in the way of over embellishment and at over just 17 ½ minutes (including the bonus track) it doesn't overstay it's welcome either. If you love to break shit, set fire to things and throw yourself around like a chiropractic injury to dumb-as-f**k sing-a-long pop-punk, then you'll absolutely love this record and should buy it immediately---Spoz-On Dit Magazine (05/2007)
