it's not big, nor is it clever but my main interest for the past decade or more has been travelling near and far in search of quality herbs and then consuming them. i also love to read all sorts and enjoy ten pin bowling, tattoos, tea, irn-bru,discordianism, aimless wandering, being in the mountains and laughing at the world.
interesting people.
all sorts really, anything with a decent bassline will generally meet my approval. a list of stuff i've been listening to recently: Oi Polloi, i finally understand punk music and it rocks! Roots Manuva, Nightmares on Wax,king tubby, big youth, niney and other 70's reggae stuff, rodrigo y gabriela, beck, tom waits, bob dylan, the rakes, arctic monkeys, barenaked ladies, hungarian skapunk band barackca, the pogues,nostalgia77, limp twins, rdf, jurassic 5,jack johnson, dj shadow, quantic, zion train, gorillaz, stopcox, galbak, damien marley and others. when i'm bored of my own music i listen to bbc 6music, highly reccommended!
i loved Sin City, the best comic book adaptation ever. i really like kevin smith's stuff, esp Clerks. other than that i'm not really fussed, would much rather read the book!
News & sport mostly, though i got hooked on the west wing and lost. i have a problem with a lot of post-partridge comedy in that as much as i enjoy it , i find it too painful to watch sometimes.
Hell yeah! Books i'm on at the moment: Just finished Orwell in Spain-ed peter davidson. Including Homage to Catalonia as well as relevent reviews, reports and correspondence on the subject. A brilliant mind and i learned lots of a period in history i have been woefully underinformed about..Some quotes i liked;' I do not see how one can oppose Fascism except by working for the overthrow of capitalism.'and also; 'there are occasionswhen it pays better to fight and be beaten than not to fight at all.' the Illuminatus Trilogy by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson for like the fifth time, although the first time in years. still as good as ever and highly reccommended. my favorite quote this time: "it's not true unless it makes you laugh, but you don't understand it until it makes you weep." profound or bollocks, i'm undecided. "Covering Islam" Edward Said. A brilliant look at how the media and experts in the west define our view of an 'islamic world'. very thought provoking and just as relevent and urgent as it was when first published in the early eighties. "the Seven Basic Plots" Christopher Booker. An almost anthropological study of literary history investigating why the same basic themes reoccurr throughout the fictional world all through history. I'm reading it instead of doing a literature degree since it seems to cover most important works and should allow me to bluff and bulshit endlessly! " I Ching" have been approaching this carefully and also randomly but it has regularly given me great advice such as; "perseverence brings good fortune to the wanderer" Can't argue with that! a list of other books that i think are worth reading, some with authors, some i can't remember as my library is in storage right now. non fiction. Understanding Power- Noam Chomsky. brilliant and, i think, his most accessible work Hidden Agendas - John Pilger Unspeak-? fantastic look at how language controls our reality, frighteningly orwellian in outlook and conclusions The Devils Picnic- ? great travel investigation of the history of prohibitions across the world. thought provoking. Matters of Substance- a perceptive analysis of the drugs problem as it has effected the twentieth century. some unique and sensible ideas, made me rethink some of my positions. the best democracy money can buy, the new pearl harbour, the great unravelling, and loads more i'll add as i remember. fiction. all of these authors write books i think are worth reading, go check them out. Neal Stephenson,Iain(M)Banks,William Gibson,Michael Marshall Smith, Tom Robbins, Robert Anton Wilson, Carl Hiaasen, Elmore Leonard, Raymond Chandler, terry pratchett, peter f hamilton, and others i'll add as i recall them. comic books. i've been collecting more than half my life and these days tend to follow certain writers and artists rather than particular characters. so i'd reccommend anythging by: Garth Ennis, Warren Ellis, Frank Miller, Grant Morrison, Paul Pope& Mark Millar. ther's a few others and some artists i'd really rave about but i'll blog some of my favorite books and comics at some point in the future.
Bill Hicks, where are you now that we need you? Guy Fawkes, same question? Shiva, Parvatti, Ganesh. my choice of trinity Hunter S Thomson (that looks like i spelled it wrong?) sorely missed. anyone who tries to live their life on their own terms, harming no others. good luck to you!
