I was born in Redwood City, California, and raised in the Bay Area until age 13. At that point, I was relocated to Colusa, Ca, where I first became involved in athletics, mainly basketball, but some track and football as well. My involvement with athletics developed into a dream of playing in the NBA, which pushed me to relocate once again to the Bay Area after high school, where I attended Canada College to play basketball. After a few years, I entered a transitional period in my life where I took a break from school, and started to get into boxing. Through boxing, I realized a great hidden talent as well as a more fulfilling enjoyment with an individualistic sport. I realized that I enjoyed reaping all of the benefits and rewards for the sacrifices and discipline that I put into boxing. After a fruitless attempt at professional boxing, another relocation and more personal turmoil, I once again found myself in a state of transition, feeling lost and looking for answers.
Turning to self-improvement outlets, I started setting goals, refocusing, and projecting the reality that I was truly looking for. My first step was to take action by placing myself in a location that would allow for opportunities, California. I continued to ask questions such as, “What do I want to contribute?â€, “How can I contribute on a massive scale?†and, “How can I get there and have fun in the process?†I found the answers to my questions within the Entertainment Industry. By combining my talent and love for athletics with the great satisfaction that I get though helping others, I could have a successful career as a Fitness Trainer to celebrities within the Entertainment Industry. Shortly after I had relocated to Los Angeles, and immersed myself in the pursuit of my dreams, LA provided the opportunities necessary to achieve them. Before I new it, I was in North Carolina, working with the Dave Matthews band. At that point all I could think was, “How did I end up here, and more importantly, How can I stay here and create real value?â€
I have now been working within the fitness industry since 1998, certified as a Fitness Trainer and Performance Nutrition Specialist through the ISSA (International Sports Science Association). I have made it my business not only to provide world-class health and fitness to celebrities within the entertainment business, but also, to assist other Fitness Trainer in raising the bar by providing excellent training with real health and fitness results. Currently I work as Fitness Trainer to Dave Matthews, and have done so for the past 5 years. In the past I have also trained with Trey Anastasio, from Phish and provided nutritional assessments for the Roots. I have received numerous awards including, most recently, a Triple Platinum Award for contribution to the Dave Matthews Band from RCA Records.
I am also the President of FIVE STAR FITNESS, INC., where I have put together a team of world-class professionals including; Fitness Trainers, a Dietician/Chef, and a NLP Master Practitioner. All affiliated professionals have joined me, in pursuit to further improve mankind’s minds, bodies and spirits.
I approach health and fitness with compassion and a focused energy that concentrates on changing body composition; largely meaning loosing fat, and gaining muscle. I carry these principles over to my company FIVE STAR FITNESS, where fitness is a way of life. Therefore, alternative methods of training such as, cardiovascular, resistance training, nutritional and professional strategies, and supplement advice are all utilized throughout the training process.
I know that in today’s society there are numerous options when it comes to choices in food, and widely marketed ‘body altering’ supplements, and it is not always easy to know what is good vs. bad. With my extensive knowledge of supplements and nutrition, I can easily and informatively break down the knowledge that you need to achieve your personal health and fitness goals. I know that there are ‘good foods’; whole, all-natural organic foods, and ‘bad foods’; processed foods, which contain, pesticides, additives, and hormones; essentially striping the food of all vitamins, minerals, and basic nutrients.
In addition, I break down supplements into two main categories. There is the Foundation Supplements category, which consists of vitamins, minerals, essential fats, and electrolytes, and the Performance Supplement category, consisting of, muscle builders, weight loss products, and energy boosters. Not only do I understand the differences between good vs. bad foods, and foundation vs. performance supplements; but I can also differentiate between an individual who is nutritiously balanced vs. someone that has deficiencies. Once I help an individual get balanced through good foods, and/or foundation supplements, then I can help to asses whether or not someone should and/or would want to utilize additional performance supplements, and if so, help to make the important decisions as to which supplements to use.
By utilizing all of the various training strategies, my team and I not only make working out well rounded, but also an enjoyable experience. My team of professionals and I know that everyone has their own personal challenges that they want to overcome, however, with the passion, dedications, and experience that the FIVE STAR FITNESS professionals have, we can and will help to achieve the desired outcome of our clients and friends.
