One thing is to be for freedom, another thing is to manipulate freedom. Cartell70, the Lisbon trio, born in 2000, make both, and they do it with a social and spiritual commitments rarely associated to electronic projects which involve pleasure and dance.
Cartell70, are everything but a collective generated in half-dozen days, as it happens so frequently in the age of Myspace. The group has tried over half a decade many variants from electronic until, on January 2007, they gave structure to their first album, appropriately called Cartell70.
From 2000 up to now were years of adventure and sharing of influences for Pablo, Castro, and Beat Laden. The collective, vastly known and praised in the pop, electronic or hip hop circuit, has gathered precious collaborations, namely with Blasted Mechanism, Plaza, Mercado Negro, Nelassassin, Ithaka and Nigga Poison. Furthermore, they have built with Darin Pappas (Ithaka) the EP, Fuse with Me.
Thanks to the contact with realities that go from hip hop to a more functional electronica or from dub to the more poignant african genre; Cartell70 put together on their first album an impressive collection of distinct ways in how to approach the pop music media. So rapidly one moves from a meditation set to a physically intense celebration scenario which comes from a profound african inspiration.
The idea alludes to a deserved heritage left by the freedom fighters from April of 1974, as such Cartell70, the album, includes participations from Blasted Mechanism ["Dança Comigo (Esta Dança)"], Yellow ["Sexo Quente"], Praga ["Clandestino (Pela Vida)"], Ithaka ["In the Name of Religion"], Rui Lobato ["Vida Podre"], DJ Nelassassin ["Joga Man"] and Nigga Poison ["Bu Kre Dance"].
Armed with the electronical weapons that support "the subversive contents of social awareness", in their own words, Cartell70 ask on their debut album "the rules imposed by the current social political system. Nonetheless, this is a complete album and simultaneously physical and cerebral.
Stories from the street, pendular movements, conflicts, all the urban and suburban everyday life works as a trigger for a parade of revolution and liberation ideas, either individual and collective. The celebration of this Universe starts January with Cartell70, an album the easily assumes itself as one of the most important national productions for 2007.
