Hashman

It's 2:00 AM and I have finally found that sound

About Me

MySpace Layouts
Who the hell is the ‘Hashman,’ No I never was some tree-hugging pothead (nor do I even drink anymore - sober for 11 months!), But let’s see - one time Sony Music employee (that's pre-BMG merger/era folks), former record store clerk (couldn’t tell you the last time I was actually in a “brick and mortar” store), Cincinnati, Knoxville, Murfreesboro, & Nashville Native (Fuck it! Hashville!) I’ve lived everywhere up & down the Tennessee & Ohio valleys, current PR/Media Planner, Medical Industry enthusiast (yes, that was medical), Music Critic/Journalist (Metal Fucking Rulez!!!), Belmont University dropout (only to immediately re-enroll at MTSU and graduate (w/3.2 GPA, I guess that's decent: one of the best choices I made over the years was transferring), Vinyl LP collector, Guitarist (although I haven’t picked any of mine up in…now ask me when the last time I turned any of my equipment on was).
And once upon a time a Book Editor, Publicist & Webmaster….
About my Writing –
I got my start for two notable webzines in back in 2003 (right after college graduation - finally entering the 'real world,' how fun!), MondoGordo.com (A site owned by renown journalist/critic, the Rev. Keith Gordon), where I was also Webmaster and Co-editor between 2006 and 2007 (until it dissolved into www.thatdevilmusic.com ) and RevelationZ.net , known as your Heavy Metal and Hard Rock Resource (was a staff writer until early 2006). Joining the staff of Ytsejam.com (known as your 'progressive rock one-stop') in 2005, I have been bringing a large scope of heavy metal & hard rock to the site ever since; even finding time to co-edit two print books, the Alt.Culture.Guide V.2 & V.3 which between the two features exclusive interviews with Steven Wilson, Blackie Lawless, Steve Hackett, Timo Kotipelto, Jag Panzer, Kurdt Vanderhoof, & Alex Scholnick among others. The Hashman also spent a brief period at Cincinnati’s Only Local Music Magazine (yes, "Only Local Music" was the rag’s actual title).

I also write the occasional article for other numerous print publications.

My Interests

Music, Music, and more music, Indie Films, Heavy Metal, Guitars (whenever I plug in), Collecting Vinyl Record LPs, Fooling around with Vintage Stereo/Audiophile Equipment (everybody make a run for it!), Traveling, Boating, Trains/Railroad Memorabilia, Reading, Writing, Music Literature/Bios.

I'd like to meet:

Sanity!!!!

Damn The Machine (feat. Chris Poland) - "The Mission"

Mondo Rock - "Primitive Love Rites"
This 80's video has it all, a concept of some sort, painted bodies, token sax player, and a keyboard guitar - but I always liked the song.

Music:

Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, AOR, Hair Metal, Melodic Rock, Classic Punk (i.e. Rhino's "No Thanks" Box Set), 80's College Rock (think "Left of the Dial"), New Wave of British Heavy Metal, and some Extreme Metal. Iron Maiden, Rush, Dream Theater (earlier records!), Metallica (the first three - and that's it!), Blind Guardian, King's X, Savatage, Journey, Queensryche (earlier stuff), AC/DC, Fates Warning (ditto on the early stuff!), Kiss (especially from 'Creatures...' to 'Revenge'), T-Rex, Hammerfall, Triumph, Symphony X, Boston, Black Sabbath, Toto, David Bowie, Porcupine Tree, Saga, Thin Lizzy, Webb Wilder, Jason & the Scorchers, London/Decca-era Rolling Stones, Big Star, Stratovarius, Rage, The Clash, Steelhouse Lane, Running Wild, Husker Du, The Doors, Rainbow, The Rave Ups, Glenn Hughes, Bad Brains, Evergrey, Yes, Judas Priest, etc., etc. Just about anything on the Avalon/Marquee, MTM (R.I.P.), Frontiers, Locomotive, Escape, Z, Lion Music, Inside Out (heavier stuff) record labels, early Shrapnel, Enigma, Metal Blade Records releases, not to mention many releases on many sadly now defunt Japanese AOR/Melodic Rock labels (remember Brunette Records? People, we need to start supporting some new AOR/Melodic Rock-Metal blood out there), XM's "Bone Yard," "Big Tracks," "Deep Tracks," "80's on 8" (guilty pleasure), & "Fred" (in moderation) Channels and Live 365's "Melodic Rock N' Rarities" Station - you get the picture.

Favorite Guitarists; Steve Hackett, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Randy Rhoads, Alex Lifeson, Tim Donahue, Steve Howe (too many Steves??), Zakk Wylde, Jake E. Lee, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Gary Moore just to name a few.

Movies:

Casino, Goodfellas, Caddyshack, Porkys, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Clerks, Animal House, This is Spinal Tap, The Decline of Western Civilization Part 2: The Metal Years, Almost Famous, High Fidelity, Scarface, The Blues Brothers, etc. I once tried my hand at produceing films with some friends of mine, the most notable was "River Reflections," but as the writing gig took off, so did I.

Television:

VH1 Classic!!!!
But Yet Unlike Most People, I do not worship my TV Set

Books:

Favorite authors; Rev. Keith Gordon, Nicholas Pileggi, Martin Popoff, Lester Bangs, Tommy Womack (for "The Cheese Chronicles), Randal Patrick, and Chuck Klosterman among others.

Heroes:

Gene Simmons - the guy is fucking brilliant!
