About Me

Jersey girl. Ex-New Yorker. Fear and loathing in Nashvegas. Chronic insomniac. Avid reader. Love to write. Hate to drive. Damn good at mixing martinis. Went from living in a 500 square foot East Village apartment to owning 4.5 acres on the Harpeth River. Was once the only biological female GoGo dancer at Twilo. Now I'm in the Junior League. Drinking more than ever. Missing the beach. Constantly wondering 'what the hell?' Gotta live the life-noir. Romantic in a David Lynch kinda way. Remember, some of Hitchcock's best villianesses were blondes. My pirate name is: Black Roger Bonney Like anyone confronted with the harshness of robbery on the high seas, you can be pessimistic at times. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate's life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr! Get your own pirate name from fidius.org.

My Interests

Red wine, Champagne, Absinthe. Progressive feminism, pop-culture!, adventure, travel, freaky people, crazy parties, dinner parties, sleepover parties, girls' night parties, cocktail parties, dance parties...you get the point. Good books, mystery and crime novels, folklore, fairy tales, superstitions, literature, pirates, tarot, taoism. Black cats, interesting coincidences, voodoo and the macabre, werewolves, vampires. NYC, Vegas, Nola, and Belize. Sand, surf, sharks, and sailboats. White collar crime and a good heist. Anime, manga, Kitsch, provactive art (which is totally subjective), the moment/the place/the feeling/the effect where art, fashion, and pop-culture collide. My wonderful, creative, amazing, brilliant, uber-patient husband Darek. My wicked kitty cats GoGo and Jackie. Bizarre twists and turns that end up as delicious short stories. Varga girls, pin-ups, burlesque. Reading and writing at night when all is quiet and still. My current hobby: Writing juicy/angsty/dark comedy slash yaoi fictions in the Bleach universe. If that makes sense and appeals to you (ummm, it's erotica) I'll happily give you my Live Journal or AFF.net links. Yaoi is yummy, ne?I am 81% Evil Genius.
.. I am pure evil. I lie awake at night devising schemes of world domination, and I will not rest until all living souls bend to my will. Take the

I'd like to meet:

Admiral Henry Morgan, Graydon Carter, Kuchiki Byakuya, Tom Ford, Sesshomaru, Kubo Tite, Anne Bonney, Abarai Renji, Jon Stewart, Marina Warner, Maria Tatar (Actually, I met Maria Tatar and it was awesome!), Maureen Dowd, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, Italo Calvino, Takashi Murakami, Frank Miller, Stan Lee, other foxy, crafty carpet-bagger grifters like myself. Smart girls who can hang! People with a gritty sense of humor and taste for adventure. I like intelligent, twisted people with strong personalities. Mind you, twisted does not not mean actively psycotic.

Music:

Praise the Universe for XM satellite radio! I love it. THE BEASTIE BOYS, Gorillaz, Japanese pop, YUI, ambient jazz, Basement Jaxx, reggae, tech-pop, trip-hop, son cubano y nuyorican soul, two-step, DJ Danger Mouse, Jay-Z, Beck, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, old Rolling Stones, Sean Paul, Leonard Cohen, The Streets, Orchestra Baobob, Afro-cuban world beat stuff, Billy Holiday, Tori Amos, my talented friends Sara Beck and Lauren Luca, old RUN DMC, old Metallica, Mark Farina, LTJ Bukem, Lo Fidelity Allstars, the Executioners, and I always return to the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack. Actually, since my sweet husband bought a karaoke set up, I get to hear myself sing all the time. And you know what, I totally rock.

Movies:

Sin City, Batman Begins, The Usual Suspects, Igby Goes Down, Interview with the Vampire, Pirates of the Caribbean, and any good gangster movie. Love me some good, pulpy action, but only if it's done well. Sin City and the new Batman--yummy. Daredevil--bad. If it has pirates, general swashbuckling or sea-faring adventure, I'm hooked. I also get sucked into almost anything that involves mysterious artifacts, folklore, mythology, and fairy tales--this applies to flicks like Indiana Jones and Constantine, not to Tomb Raider. It's gotta at least be a 2 star picture... I'll give any Coen Bro's film a chance, generally love Tim Burton and get all goo-goo eyed for Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, and Ewan McGregor (like many of you). Scarlett Johannsen and Cate Blanchet also make my heart flutter. Beyond that, I watch a LOT of anime. Especially the kind that's not for the kiddies.

Television:

I am a serious insomniac and love me some late night Adult Swim. Um, if you're reading this, you'll notice I've mentoned Bleach already. Probably like twice. Maybe more. I'm completely obsessed with Bleach. How obsessed? I collect production doujinshi and promo cels from the of Bleach.(I've got cels from other animes, too) It goes way beyond that, tho, into yaoi fics and more. Sometimes I think I am Byakuya...I like The Venture Brothers--such great writing. I'll give any animation that comes with an "adult content" warning a shot. I spent way too much time on YouTube downloading anime--Japanese with English subtitles. Samurai Champloo, Blood +, InuYasha, Cowboy Bebop... I know I'm forgetting stuff.OMFG--Ninja Warrior!! And Robot Chicken. Isn't Jon Stewart brillaint? I just want to eat him up. Miami Ink on TLC. We TIVO a lot of animal shows, mostly about large, misunderstood carnivores.I have never watched the batchelor or shit like that. I never will.

Books:

Mmm, I read a lot. Some of my faves: Middlesex, Random Family, the Arabian Nights. I'm absolutely crazy about fairy tales old and new, FOLKLORE, mythology, world stories. I'd rather read Julius Caesar's war journals than anything Postmodern. Give me Ovid's Metamorphoses over Kafka's Metamorphosis any day. The Pancatantra, The Castle of Crossed Destinies. What else? Girl with a Pearl Earring, Mama Day, Tao te Ching, Out Foxed, THE HIPSTER HANDBOOK, The Tipping Point, Freakonomics, gory history, true crime, classics like The Count of Monte Cristo, angsty ex-patriot Hemingway stuff. I like short stories, like Camus' "the guest." Angela Carter and her "moral pornography." manga, manga, manga, manga, and yaoi manga. My must-read magazines are Vanity Fair, W, and Wine Spectator. RIP Hunter S. Thompson.

Heroes:

Gogo Kitty, Angela Carter, Italo Calivino, Maria Tatar, Little Red Riding Hood, The Big Bad Mo'Fo' Wolf, Marina Warner, Alexander McQueen, Hunter S. Thompson, Tom Ford, Graydon Carter, Betty Page, Sesshoumaru, David Fincher, Kuchiki Byakua, my favorite professors, Mom & Dad, my true blue girlfriends and my husband.
