"Get outta your comfort zone, and start using another part of your brain!"

About Me

The short of it: Born on an x-mas morn in '65 & raised in Brooklyn, N.Y.. BA '90 USC, Film-TV Production. Pre-USC, studied music theory & composition for 2 1/2 years @ Pima Community College (west campus) in Tucson, AZ. A decade producing radio talk shows. Now play guitar, write songs, screenplays, buy rental properties in the Phoenix are, make films, teach acting and and take drum lessons!Long distance: Born on a Christmas morning in ’65 in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, N.Y.. I later moved to Sheepshead Bay until I was 14 ½. In Little League for six years. Growing up in NY, my boyhood dream was to pitch -- or play shortstop -- for the New York Mets or NY Yankees. A Catalina HS coach in Tucson cut that career goal short -- literally speaking … Said I was "too short for the team." Hey, ever hear of Pete Rose!?).Anyways, while attending Marine Park, Jr. High, became best friends with a kid bused in from Bed Sty ... a 14-year-old Chris Rock! In fact he based a best friend character on me in the UPN series, “Everybody hates Chris.”August 1979, my family moved to Tucson, AZ due to my severe asthma.Tucson (August 1979-July 1986) In the early 80s, my father, a New York City Public school system Industrial Arts teacher (a.k.a., shop teacher), opened up a Music Store in Tucson (Arty’s Musician Shop). Despite being in businesses for less than a year (hard times … the recession, bad location), I seem be the only person who benefited: learned how to play guitar, then wrote songs.A few years later, I studied music theory and composition at Pima Community College for 2 ½ years (My mother was a nursing instructor there, so I got a discount!). Was also in a rock/alternative band (The Sidewinders which morphed into The Sand Rubies). Guy who was in the band worked for a radio station, and got me in the door when I was 19-years-old. (The rest is history, as far as my radio career).Early 1984, had a key (non-speaking) part in the classic film “Revenge of the Nerds” shot in Tucson (Directed by Jeff Kanew). That in turn inspired me to learn the art and craft of filmmaking. Which leads to …LA (1986-1990) Got my BA degree from USC’s prestigious Film-TV school. Worked on various productions, including Oliver Stone’s “The Doors” for a week during my Spring break, Robert Evans’ development company, Dick Clark (“Bloopers & Practical Jokes” & “Challengers” game show) and Director Peter Bogdonovich for a brief time as a production assistant.Las Vegas (1991-July 1998) Later moved to Las Vegas. More work there at the time ('91 recession). Worked on lots of Democratic candidate campaigns; tons of convention work; wrote for the Las Vegas Business Journal in '93; PR for Nevada's biggest talent agency (Baskow Agency); Binion's Horseshoe human resources helping to register World Series of Poker dealers who came from around the country. March 1997, got back into radio at an FM talker, 105.1 KVBC. Summer '98 producing/board op/sidekick afternoon drive gig ("Jim & Julie Show") was being cut from FT to PT, so I decided to look elsewhere. Where bring me to …Phoenix (July 24th, 1998-present) Produced number 1 morning show with legendary host Bill Heywood at 620 KTAR (now News 92.3 FM). Also did promotions for about two years, and for almost three years (good times!)produced legendary valley talk host Preston Westmoreland’s highly-rated show. The show went to #1 in PM drive. Was also tapped as the best talk show in the state by the Arizona Associated Press in 2003. Later that year, Preston won the equivalent of the "Oscar of radio," the Marconi Award for large market personality (I like to think I had some part in that win!).Preston and I got blown out Aug. 23rd, 2004. He headed into real estate, and I got a part-time gig at conservative news-talk station 550 KFYI. In September 2004, I started out fill-in producing the “Liddy & Hill Show,” and have been a weekend news anchor, and fill-in reporter the past two years (Resigned June 18th, 2008 to pursue marketing my rental properties, and music and film career).Never thought in my wildest dreams I’d be in real estate, let alone an investor!May 2007, started to fill-in teach acting on the side at the Elizabeth Savage Talent Agency. Write and record songs. Have a couple of film-TV show placements. Now "that close" to getting a cut on “American Idol,” Season six winner – and Glendale, AZ resident – Jordin Sparks’ debut CD.
