With a name like MuddyKing on the marquee, you might expect to see an old bluesman on stage. But Muddy's "old soul" paired with seasoned road experience makes for an interesting show. The band consists of Muddy King on guitar, organ and vocals, with L. Richard Albright, a.k.a. "Boom Boom," on bass and backing vocals. On drums is Philip Johnson.
Muddy and Rich have developed a Lennon/McCartney sensibility with their song writing, each harmony complementing the other's style. The sound is hard to label, always keeping one foot in the blues, but stretching out to jazz, reggae and even 60s British invasion pop. In 2002, MuddyKing received honors for "Best Blues" and "Best Male Vocalist" at the Birmingham Area Music Awards (BAMAs).
MuddyKing's fans can expect a great show. From Muddy's duck walks and solos played behind his head to flaming guitars, fans have grown accustomed to exciting live performances. Muddy even sparkles organ into the mix while still playing his guitar.
Their first album, Bogalusa, was produced at MixMasters Studios in Cullman, Ala., and released in May 2000. Singles from the album, including "A Woman," "Stop Breakin' Down" and "Excuse Me" have received national and international radio airplay. MuddyKing is currently in the studio working on a follow up album, which is scheduled to be released soon.
