HUDSON AND THE HOO DOO CATS, a JumpSwinginRockinBoogieBluesaBilly band, was founded in Austin, Texas in 1989 and relocated to St. Louis, Missouri in 1995. During the past fifteen years, the band has been showcased in over 3,000 performances. HUDSON AND THE HOO DOO CATS focus on Harkins originals, jump blues from the Forties, rockabilly from the Fifties, and swingin shufflin blues. The band has become a favorite of St. Louis swing and blues dancers.
Hudson Harkins fronts the band as lead vocalist, drummer and songwriter. An Austin native of 39 years, Harkins originals have been strongly influenced by Austins eclectic music scene and St. Louis historical blues and roots traditions. Now in his 11th year with HUDSON AND THE HOO DOO CATS, ace guitarist John Logans original style is featured on an old Gibson archtop or a Fender Strat. Slap bassist Mike Graham plays a rare 1940s aluminum upright with showmanship and aggressiveness. Newest member, boogie-woogie blues pianist Matt Murdick, is known throughout the St. Louis music community as one of its finest.
After years of touring regionally and playing hundreds of club dates, the bands experience and professionalism is reflected in their ability to adapt to any performing environment, including casinos, festivals, corporate events, weddings and private parties. High profile corporate clients include American Airlines, Anheiser Busch, Southwestern Bell, Ameristar Casinos and many, many more.
HUDSON AND THE HOO DOO CATS have just released a double CD compilation of songs picked from all 5 of the bands previously released albums. They represent the best of the groups recordings over the past 15 years. These two albums, 2 CARS and AND FRIENDS 2, primarily feature Harkins originals and strongly showcase the individual talents of each member. AND FRIENDS 2 offers the additional talent of over 25 guest artists from Austin and St. Louis, including The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame pianist Johnnie Johnson and W.C. Handy award winner W.C. Clark, also known as the godfather of Austin Blues.
