What is a rotttweiler?The rotweiler is decended from ''mastiff-type'' drover dogs used in acient rome.roman armies used these dogs to guard and herd cattle over the alps and into germany.further development of the ''metzgerhund''(butcher dog) continued in rotweill,germany,where the dogs were used as herding dogs,draft dogs,and merchant's guard dogs.by the late 1800's,the rotweiler had become useful in police work.the allemeiner deutscher rottweiler kulb (ADRK) was formed to preserve the working heritage of the breed,and the studboook opened in 1924.the ADRK continues to provide strict breeding guidlines for its members,helping to insure the integrity of the breed in germany and abroad
Today,the ideal rottweiler is a medium-large,robust,and powerful dog,black with clearly defined rust markings.His compact &substantial build denote great strenghth,agility,and endurance.Dogs(males) azre characteristically more massive throughout,while bitches are distinctly feminine without weakness of substance or structure.male range from 24'' to 27'' at the shoulder and weigh95 to 135 pouds.bitches are somewhat smaller,from22'' to 25'' at the shoulder,and weighing from 80 to 100 pounds.Rottweilers exceeding this range are incorrect!
