_____________________La VieBorn at Long Island City College Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, Nah’sikha Mackay’s indoctrination into life began in back projects; a harsh and turbulent lower income housing project known as Red Hook. Being the 2nd oldest of five siblings living in a cramped apartment and at the age when most children are out playing and enjoying childhood, a young Nah’sikha Mackay was already thrust into the parental role of caring for her younger siblings. Her parents were already working long hours and continued to struggle even with the help of public assistance to make ends meat. Oftentimes their struggle would require numerous moves throughout Nah’sikha’s adolescence, subsequently landing her in yet another tough neighboring borough by the name of Queensbridge. But soon, life would begin to change for little Nah’sikha.Since the tender age of five years old, her father, having already noticed little Nah’sikha’s obsession for attention and entertainment, eagerly encouraged his daughter to showcase her talents for visiting guests, friends and family. During her teenage years, Nah’sikha’s early and varied experiences in responsibility and survival would serve her well.During her middle school years, Nah’sikha would eventually meet a couple of friends who also shared her passion and love for entertainment. Together and as a group, Nah’sikha’s skills were honed and perfected as a performer throughout the many various talent showcases and open mics in which they would take part. In fact, it was at one of these very showcases that she witnessed the live performance of a local hip-hop artist’s energetic verbal prowess and the resulting influence he possessed to embrace and energize the crowd. As if by epiphany, it was at that very moment Nah’sikha had found her true calling in life – she too would become an emcee. Not just another emcee, but the best emcee ever. By utilizing the same “street competitiveness†that had helped her overcome and survive the many adversities in her life, and, adopting the words of her father who always said, “Whatever you do, do it rightâ€. Thus Nah’sikha began to thrust herself into hip-hop's popular culture by gleaning from some of music industries best such as: QUEEN LATIFAH, SALT-N-PEPA, BIGGIE SMALLS, JAY-Z, 50 CENT and NAS to name but a few.By her late teens and up to present day, Nah’sikha Mackay (now better known as LaVie on stage) has perfected her own unique brand and style of emcee flow through creative and edgy metaphors and no-nonsense provocative rhymes that guarantee to excite, embrace and entertain! Since her start, thousands have come to witness this enterprising and rising young female rapper. When asked about her outlook on life and given the many difficulties she’s had to face and endure since being a young child, she still remains optimistic and states:“In every moment of everyday a new life experience begins, and with each experience another door of opportunity opens to improve your life for the better. Regardless of how hard or easy things can be, there is a lesson to be learned in everything that can make you a much wiser person than you were the moment just before.â€Experience the gripping tales of LaVie’s powerful experiences through life on her new CD entitled “Salutations†on line and in record stores near you. ___________________________________________________________T
