Reality? What's that like?

About Me

I was born in Alabama, theonly child of an aerospace engineer and a pioneer of computer graphics. Yes, both nerds, both smart, both diametrically opposed in just about everything else. That's probably why I'm a psychologist. I've been to Ireland, England, Scotland, Germany, Austria, Canada and Russia. My life revolves around my 2 kids, my husband, my friends, cons and costuming, and our dogs. That's a lot of balls to juggle, but I always liked juggling.Oh, and I also design and sell fun stuff. www.cafepress.com/jensportofcall

My Interests

First and foremost, I am interested in my 2 kids, because they are so special to me. I am torn between wanting them to grow up and become the cool people I know they are meant to be and wanting them to stay my babies. They are turning out really well, so far. I am having a great time being married to my best friend. It's been 10 years and we're still having a great time.We have three dogs. We also have a black rabbit named Toby who is really cool and thinks he's a dog.I'm a member of the 501st Alabama Garrison. Yay Bikerscouts! My husband and I are members of the Dead Pirates. He's Jose Gaspar and I'm Jaquotte Delahaye. We have a lot of great friends in this group, and it's a great outlet for costuming. I'm always on the lookout for new things to make. This year, I'm working on no less than 12 costumes, most are our DragonCon outfits. Photobucket Album

I'd like to meet:

There are a lot of dead people I would like to meet. Doesn't that sound morbid? Ugh, but I mean people like Richard Feinman, Einstien, Chopin, Douglas Adams, Freddy Mercury, Rosa Parks, George Sand, Mary Shelley. Not that I want to go and meet them NOW or anything..Living people I would like to meet: John Rhys Davies (because I lost my nerve last year), Kevin Smith, Alan Rickman, Jason Isaacs, Hugh Jackman, Julia Roberts, David Wenham, John C. McGinnley, Kathy Griffin, Jack Black. I dont know why. I guess mainly because they are all people I think would be great at a party.

Music:

I like any kind of music. I listen to filking, some country, Irish drinking songs, pirate songs, alternative, classical music, hard rock, some rap.. it just really depends on the song for me.Favorite groups: Great Big Sea, Peter Gabriel, Queen, Shania Twain, Meatloaf, David Bowie, Brobdingnagian Bards, Scurvy Pirates, Dave Matthews Band, Crosby Stills & Nash, America, Cheryl Crowe

Movies:

Star Wars, Xmen, El Dorado, Indiana Jones, Young Sherlock Holmes, Dogma, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Ice Pirates!, Pirates of the Caribbean, LOTR, The Office, Peter Pan, The Black Swan. Hmm.. see a pirate theme here?

Television:

Firefly, SG-Atlantis, Babylon 5, Battlestar Gallactica, Medium, Ghost Hunters, West Wing, Dr. Who, HGTV

Books:

Anything by Heinlen, Anything by Arthur C. Clarke. I recently discovered Tim Pratt's "The strange adventures of Rangergirl" which I am really enjoying. Lois McMaster Bujold's books are awesome, especially "Cordelia's Honor". Douglas Adams, who wrote all of the Hitchhicker's Guide books, will always be my favorite. I enjoy Edgar Allen Poe, Robert Jordan, JK Rowling, and Dan Simmons immensely.

Heroes:

I guess the main hero I have is a heroine. She was an ancestor of mine. Her name was Ghormley (meaning Blue maid), and various legends about her have her as a goddess or queen of the fairies. I think that's pretty cool. She WAS a queen, though. She married Brian Boru, who was a king of Ireland. She was fierce in everything she did, and opinionated, and yet she was respected a great deal. I think of her when I have to be assertive. I think I'm too weird to ever find someone to model myself after.

Sad Happy Day

Ever wonder why you do things on Wednesday and not on, say the Monday a week ago? Well, there's something going on in the cosmos. Last night, our puppy/horse Spencer finally did something we were not...

No Reason in Particular

I don't know why I'm writing this. I just got through writing a 12 page beginning to a science fiction story. I like it so far. I think I fixed most of the normal stupid things I do that annoy me...
