About Me

My name is Greg Stekelman. I was born in 1975.Londoner, short, novelist, illustrator, smoker, whinger.I am the brains behind the world-famous themanwhofellasleep website and the author of "A Year in the Life of TheManWhoFellAsleep".
What the critics have to say about the book:
"This excellent, odd, fantastical diary offers a curious combination of dreams, London journeys, and dead-pan humour…recommended." – Time Out London
"A surreal, morbidly entertaining journal/novel" - Zoo Magazine
"...One of the most imaginative and enjoyable diaries since Brian Eno's A Year With Swollen Appendices... Stekelman is a Woody Allen for the Myspace generation." – Vice Magazine
"A Year in the Life of The Man Who Fell Asleep is probably the most original book you’ll pick up in a while. It’s hard to explain, so just read it." – LCC Magazine

My Interests

Me, myself and I. I like many things, although I rarely like anything to the point where I will leave the house to pursue it. I'm quite lazy. I like films, comics, open water, books, nice smiles, quiet pubs, pornography, cigarettes. The usual. I support Spurs. Not sure if that's an interest or merely a cosmic curse.

I'd like to meet:

Someone nice. Or maybe Martin Jol. I do like Martin. And I'd quite like to meet the "people of power". You know... the big cheeses. The people who make the big decisions. I wouldn't hector them or throw eggs. I'd just like a chat.
Who I wouldn't like to meet? Idiots.

Music:

Kevin Johansen, Adam Green, Air, Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, Frank Sinatra, Baby Bird, Red House Painters, Cat Power, Gotan Project, Johnny Cash. In my younger days I was a big fan of the Manic Street Preachers. Lots of random pop songs. Oh you know... does it really matter? Really? I could quite happily listen to the Bee Gees all day.

Movies:

The Apartment, The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, Rushmore, Anchorman, The Sting, Duck Soup. I used to watch the same films over and over, until I got bored of them. Nowadays I'd rather see something new.

Television:

I can't watch television much. I get too jealous of people doing better than me. I tend to get addicted to American TV series and then go cold turkey when the season ends.

Books:

A Year in the life of The Man Who Fell Asleep by Greg Stekelman aka me, Raymond Chandler, Susan Cooper, David Mitchell, Irwin Shaw, Michael Dibden, Borges, science fiction, Walter Mosley, James Ellroy, Donna Tartt. Oh and lots more. I read books quickly and then forget about them.I used to love comics. I guess I still do. Munoz and Sampayo, Milo Manara, Marc Silvestri, Grant Morrisson, Walt Simonson, Los Bros Hernandez, Rick Leonardi, David Mazzuchelli, Frank Miller, Mike Mignola... lots more who I can't remember off the top of my head.

Heroes:

Superman, I suppose. And Martin Jol. But football managers always ultimately disappoint.

sharing a home

We've been in the new flat for just over a month now and I am slowly getting used to it. It's a very small flat, with a lounge, one bedroom, bathroom and a tiny walk-through kitchen. I find myself pac...

I love Martin Jol

Last night was Martin Jol's last match as Spurs manager. I watched the game against Getafe, mostly pacing around the front room and swearing, when just before half-time the commentators announced unco...

flat

I am alive and well and living in a new flat with my girlfriend, like a real, proper grown-up person. It's quite good. We have yet to kill each other. We are cooking nice, middle-class meals and going...

A video

Here's another art/porn video. As many of you may have noticed, I haven't been posting much here. That's partly because I've been busy as a bee on ritalin, and partly because Myspace annoy...

A few weeks before I left to go travelling, someone alerted me to a short story competition on normblog. The stories were supposed to be very short indeed, at no more than 250 words. Having nothing be...
