Alive & Kicking

Sacramento's Finest Music 'zine with a Cow Logo!!!

About Me

Alive & Kicking came to be in August 1991. It was created as a newspaper to accompany and promote shows at the late, great Sacramento live music venue, The Cattle Club. In 1996, after painstakingly publishing 12 issues in a mere five years, A&K went monthly and has been wondering 'Why?' ever since.
A&K is devoted to the Local Sacramento Music Scene, featuring a different local band on the cover each month. Understanding that the Local music scene is more than just about the bands, A&K wisely also provides insights to the Rock 'n' Roll worlds of bowling, drive-in movies, greasy spoons, home repair, supermarket shopping and many, many other riveting explorations of Sacramento's seldom experienced underbelly.
There's never been a publication like Alive & Kicking and there have never been words like the ones that somehow make it past our proofreaders. A&K is a treat for readers young and old, however, those of a more lucid age will probably find it quite inane and pointless. If so... then we have succeeded!
Alive & Kicking also presents shows at Old Ironsides every Thursday, Friday & Saturday . See the calendar listing above or find Old I in my Top Friends.

Band Members: A&K is published by Jerry Perry who also writes it, lays it out, sells ads, drives it around town and writes myspace blurbs in the third person. However, the paper also benefits greatly from the writing and assistance of Cary Rodda, Paul Wilbur, Eddie Jorgensen, Marla Grein, Che Brooks, Ben Steinert, Brad Deluchi, Kepi Ghoulie, Mickie Rat, Pauline Hess, Julie Murphy, Melanie Bown, Dr, Katie Semion, MD., Official French Intern Corine Stofle, AND Linda Perry. ALSO: Ted Angel does some kickass design!!!
Influences: Alive & Kicking is greatly influenced by a life spent in Sacramento. This includes, but is not limited to: Seeing local bands, reading Mad Magazine, lotsa 7-11 Slurpees, The Sacramento 6 Drive-in, caffeine, junk TV, Nationwide Freezer Meats, Hamm's Beer, Capitol Bowl (actually in West Sac, but still a great bowling alley...), lots and lots of trees (and the subsequest allergies), a few high profile serial killers, and the original Tower Records. Also A&K's publisher has a slight lazy eye and as a result sees everything a tad to the left.
Sounds Like: When read aloud, it sounds like you. But for better comedic effect we recommend reading it in your head as either Jerry Lewis or Jimmy Durante. Ho boy... Jimmy Durante.... that never gets old. Ha Cha cha cha.... oh man... good stuff.
