I am a native of Austin, who from the moment of conception was destined to be a man of music, and one to excel in all endeavors. I feel so blessed to finally be able to reach others with my musical artistry of mixing and production.
I began as a trombone player at the age of 11. I always had a passion for music. As I began to understand music more, I took an interest in collecting music from anywhere I could get it in 88. Austin's music scene shaped my interested, as B-93 friday nite Nasty Mixes blended an emerging Hip Hop scene with House, Hip House, Techno, and Progressive Dance Music. I think that's when I realized I was a music junky. Later, my family and I started visiting relatives in Houston, and I experienced the next level of radio / music. Stations like Majic 102, 93Q, 97.9, 98.5 were doing live mix shows from the clubs, and were so off the chain it wasn't even real. I would sneak downstairs after midnight when all the grown ups were sleep to tape these mix shows until 4 and 5 am in the morning, just to have my fix of music when going back to Austin.
As my collection began growing, I eventually made it up to Chicago, and that's when House Music and I got married. 97.9 in Houston made the introduction, on the New 9 @ 9 show. They played Doug Lazy, a Hip House Artist with a single out " Let It Roll ". I was sold on House at that point. Chicago's WGCI took me to that next level with their mixshows. Bad Boy Bill, Jumpin' Julian Perez, Armando, and the crew forever touched my life. I still have the first mix tape I recorded from 1988 to this day. Hip Hop was just as instrumental in my life, but House has more of a soul connection to me.
As a student at Prairie View A&M University outside of Houston, Tx, I met a lot of cool peeps from Chi-town and Detroit who made their musical contributions, and I am thankful for every song I've been turned on to by those peepsl
Throughout the years of college and those first 4 yrs out, I just kept supplying my habit of collecting good music, house, drum & bass, dance, hip hop, underground hip hop, gangsta rap and all that was good from that time frame. But somewhere in there, I guess I got bored with just buying music, so I bought some bull@hit turntables and made my first attempt at dj'ing... sucked... but it was in me,... just couldn't figure out how to do it well... a dj in Wichita KS, gave me my first flight case and some vinyl, and tried to teach me a lil' something,.. but I just didn't catch on ( thanks anyways for the time ).
A few years laters,... after some life altering challenges and motivation,... I then picked up a set of Numark TTX's and mixer and took another shot at it, and hence DJ NIMBUS was born in 2003.
All that I have seen, done, and experienced, now was able to be conveyed through the vinyl that I have since been accumulating, and all the inspiration from those whom have touched my life in one way or another has now become the fuel for my creativity, and ability to mold music into pictures of my life and thoughts.
I'd like to give thanks to those dj's / artist who gave me the inspiration to never let this dream die.
