Simplistic Urge may have started as a hard rock band, but what the group has become is slowly bridging the gap between pop and hardcore. Glimpses of hardcore, post hardcore, and pop find the band in a new rock genre: MELODICORE.
Simplistic Urge, formed in ’03, is made up of five members: Tim Flynn- Lead Vocalist, Matty- Guitar and backup vocalist, Michael Styrczula-Guitar and backup vocalist, John Haracz- Bassist, Chris DiDomenico- Percussion.
While immersed in the Chicago music scene, SU has played well-known venues such as The Double Door, The Elbo Room, The Congress Theatre, and the Lakeshore Theatre. The band is also well known at The Rave in Milwaukee, WI. SU participated in Bodog’s “In the Trenches” Music Competition, a national battle of the bands. They advanced to the second round of competition and gained more respect on the scene. SU also returned to Chicago’s House of Blues for their second appearance in Al Roker Jr’s XXXL bash with Bellevue Suite and El Guapo. The pinnacle of ’06 for Simplistic Urge was taking The Metro by storm during their performance at Songs from a Scene VI with Lucky Boys Confusion.
Simplistic Urge has played with nationally renowned artists such as Letter Kills, Chevelle, StutterFly, Adair, and Collective Soul, as well as being chosen by Q101, Chicago’s largest alternative station, to compete in their Local Music Mail Room. Here listeners voted online for the best local band. SU won by over 40%, winning air time on the radio station for their single “One Sided.” SU was nominated as one of the finalists during Suburban Nightlife’s Best of the ‘Burbs competition. The band was also featured in a spread in the December ’06 edition of Clubline Magazine.
In the summer of ’05, Simplistic Urge traveled to Malibu, CA to record Eight Sided Di. With ’06 came SU’s next EP Pulse of America. ’07 finds the band in another stage of evolution. Hardcore and pop clash head on to create SU’s newest sound: the EP Bridging the Gap. Two new recordings are on the way, as well as new merchandise and new venues to play. Simplistic Urge has just finished recording their new EP "Drown In Your Own Demise" with producer Steve Russell (As I Lay Dying, Sworn Enemy, Blindside, etc...) It was released Summer 2007.

Band Members: What are industry people saying about Simplistic Urge?

"Simplistic Urge is an extremely hard working band, with a lot of passion. They have a lot of great promise and I respect their work ethic and devotion to building a long term career."

Randy Spencer, Pitch Music

"Working with Simplistic Urge, you can feel the passion for the music from each member. It’s more than just realizing the guys are friends, it’s a matter of a group of friends realizing what they can accomplish by putting their musical talents together. In talking with the guys both on and off air, you can see what their goals are and feel the commitment from each member. It’s not a matter of fluff and parading around; they simply don’t have time for that. They’d rather continue writing their next favorite song and play live as often--and as well--as possible. Completely genuine guys with a live show that resembles a party--they captured my interest with their music and sold me as a fan with their ability to have a good time with each and every show."

"We’ve been hosting our showcase series for 12 years and Simplistic Urge are without a doubt one of the top acts that have graced our stage. They’ve got the songs and the ability to deliver live. We’ve already extended an invitation for next year’s showcase"
