STATIK STORY.
Since 2003, Statik Dancin has been busy celebrating all shades of minimal sound and injecting quality into the Belgian club scene. Conceived with sophistication and an attention to detail that is currently unmatched, Statik Dancin provides a unique showcase for some of the most creative artists around. A rich cabaret exposing the polychrome micro-fibre of life in all its splendor: this is the way, step inside
Statik Dancin is organised bi-monthly at Recyclart, a former railway station and home to one of the most dynamic cultural projects in Belgium. The perfect setting for Statik Dancin, Recyclart offers top sound quality in a no-nonsense, no-frills, environment. Forget the superficial glitz of commercial clubbing; this is pure minimal, a canvas open to all. Unique in Brussels, Recyclart stands out as a locomotive for renewal, not stuck to proven success formulas, but creating space for activities that challenge traditional limits and cut across the standard box mentality; a philosophy that perfectly matches the spirit of Statik Dancin.
The vision behind this project is Brussels-based DJ, promoter, and founder of Lucy Lee recordings, Darko. A DJ since the age of 17, Darko has rightly learnt to blindly trust his ears in all musical projects. Detached from the relentless succession of hype, Darko selects tracks for their power and elusive pull. With Statik Dancin he has created a forum for free expression of the music he loves best.
Word has been getting around as the family of addicted Statik Dancers multiplies. This is a focused crowd, musically receptive, eclectic, and always open to the new. This is no fashion parade, but a euphoric celebration of basic human emotion and the unfathomable power of music. Contagious energy and collective exploration without limits or prejudice. Harnessing the intrinsic power of music as a liquid language, Statik Dancin begs to be shared. Join the melomania!
In spite of its growing popularity, Statik Dancin remains 'underground' in its attitude and outlook. Unfazed by the current minimal boom, Darko continues to select artists in his own deeply personal way, with respect and a playful attention to detail. Hidden between the lines, theres a secret tale full of comedy and musical zest waiting to be discovered by those reading the references:
The story began as it only could
Statik Dancin takes its name from the classic song by Minimal Compact. Born of a collision between East and West, dance and solemnity, Minimal Compact, mix the stark and luxuriant and lubricate senses and soul. This is a group dear to Darko who shares their Israeli origins and Belgian connection, as much as their sense of musical balance. And who better to kick off the first party than Krikor? Pioneering French minimalist and producer of the acclaimed Statik Dancin mix released on the Returning Wheel Remixes and Remakes double 12 (Crammed, 2003), Krikor delivered an incendiary live performance, setting standards suitably sky-high. With Losouls rich groovy nectar the First chapter was perfectly complete.
Every subsequent move executed with skilful precision, Statik Dancin has pursued its own path to innovation with determination and style. Giving space to exploration and celebrating creativity, Statik Dancin has paid tribute to the key movers and shakers on the scene today. Each evening is a box of delight in Statik Dancin tradition with a Live! and varied guest sets. The whole peppered with bursts of all-consuming Darko magic. Enough to take the top of your head off! Artists representing groundbreaking labels, including: Kompakt, Pokerflat, Peacefrog, Playhouse, Perlon, Boxer, Traum, Mute, and speak highly and can be found mixing up a storm on both sides of the decks!

D A R K O *
Darko began collecting records while his friends were still playing with toy cars; his selective and demanding ears set to become his most trusted allies.
DJ from the age of 17, Darko has earnt deserved respect on the Belgian music scene. With frequent appearances at the countrys major clubs and dance festivals alongside the likes of Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos (@ I love Techno), Felix Da Housecat, Erol Alkan, Trevor Jackson, James LCD Murphy, 2 Many DJs. Darko has built a reputation for unshakeable quality, good times guaranteed. With the cheeky twinkle to his seriously-serious-side, he has long been seducing those further a field: in Paris (Nouveau Casino, Batofar, We love,) Berlin (WMF), or London (Fesh Club 333). Appealing directly to the melomaniac within, Darko is a DJ trusted by the hypest fashion circles (Including Louis Vuitton, Sonia Rykiel, Barbara Bui, Xavier Delcour, Antwerp Fashion Academy, La Cambre Mode) and most discerning underground crowds alike.
No fan of monotony, Darko's sound is eclectic and reflects his open-minded approach to music. His teeth in everything - from minimal to electro, rock or acid - Darko says: "when you've been a DJ for so long, you eventually laugh at the transience of musical trends and repetitive hype, all that matters is enthusiasm for the timeless and elusive power of music.
The resolute intuition behind Darkos incisive mixes also guides his artistic programming, to the same simple end: creating space for the artists he wants to see and hear. One foot firmly planted in minimals fertile soil, and the other in electropunk rock nroll, Darko takes care of the needs of many. Creating original platforms for some of the worlds most inspiring artists including, Trevor Jackson, James Murphy, Steve Bug, Luciano, Vive La Fête, or The Radio 4, Darkos projects are each bewitchingly indelible in their own way.
To satiate his appetite for all things minimal Darko started Statik Dancin. Now in its third year, this hugely popular bi-monthly night shines out with guests including Michael Mayer, Krikor, Tobias Thomas, Losoul, Superpitcher, Jeff Samuel, Koze, Dominik Eulberg, Chloe, Ada, Matias Aguayo, Ferenc, Lawrence, Barbara Morgenstern etc. At Statik Dancin, Darko has successfully cultivated an unmistakable vibe that proves as popular with artists, as with their receptive fans. Bliss and inner sparkle prevail. As minimal booms in Belgium, (he leads his) Statik Dancers (are led) into vast soundscapes to taste emerging delights. Happy people spoilt!
Simultaneously author of unchained technorock mayhem, Darko has recently been electrifying Recyclarts Yeah! nights. Powered by pure punk energy, these are parties with an overdose of attitude. Combining live rock acts and DJ sets, Yeah! slices through genre to release the power of music at its core. Here, as ever, Darko remains: master of the dancefloor - servant to the music.
Still hungry, Darko recently launched Lucy Lee Quality Recordings. The next step in his musical exploration of a certain idea of desire and beauty. Inheriting Darkos sonic schziophrenia, Lucy Lee sets out on a path of cross-pollination, mixing scenes and genre, with personal style. The first signings reveal the bold ambitions of a label that isnt concerned with labels but seeks to shock the senses. First release: The Penelopes Steal This EP (30.01.05) Lucy Lee Quality recordings (www.lucylee.net).
LUCY LEE QUALITY RECORDINGS.
Lucy Lee (named in discreet homage to Ricardo Villalobos Easy Lee) alone boldly carries the aspirations of this young Brussels-based label into the world: the quest for a certain idea of desire and beauty, translated in music that is both carnal and incisive. Lucy Lee launches in the direction of her target: a contemporary club spirit that, after years of petty squabbling, now prefers to cultivate the mixing of genres, to favour cross-pollination and to merge tracks and scenes, DJ sets and concerts. An iconoclastic exercise, but one which has restored the taste for gimmick pop / rock and performance to club music. Its pioneers include Suicide and Kraftwerk, and their glorious offspring LCD Soundsystem, Erlend Øye, Electronicat and Justus Khoncke. Fruit of this incestuous courtship, Lucy Lee is also the cherished child of Darko and Marc Lacroix.
DJ since the age of 17, Darko hasnt stopped developing his sets throughout the course of his multiple and acute musical love affairs. Having played all over Belgium, in the company of Trevor Jackson, 2 many DJs, James Murphy, Felix Da Housecat or Vive La Fete, he has recently been electrifying Recyclart (a former Brussels railway station). This new ground has allowed him to him to dull the appetite of his two demons: minimal techno, on the one hand, with the already legendary Statik Dancin, electropunk and rock nroll, on the other, at the Yeah! nights. Events marked by a scorched dandyism and a raw hedonism, which have already seen the likes of Michael Mayer, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Dead Combo, Think Twice, Losoul, Superpitcher, Steve Bug, and Luciano, step onto the stage.
At his side, is Marc Lacroix, Lucy Lees label manager and sound engineer in his own right. During Darkos various residencies nights, passionate conversations about shared musical taste (the factory label etc.), the tandem formed, and deciding to throw all to the wind, created the young Lucy Lee. With its first signings, Lucy Lee reveals the ambitions of a label that isnt concerned with any particular musical etiquette, provided that it astounds both body and ear: electro-gothic from Parisian duo The Penelopes, freestyle House with Berlin-based Phonique, and the minimal electro-pop of Julien Plaisir de France. An aesthetically open configuration that is primarily devoted to vinyl EPs but hasnt ruled out the possibility of developing album projects on other formats in the future. Translated in image, the manifesto of Lucy Lee has been bathed in Coast Designs graphical universe. While clearly inspired by the minimal classics (Bauhaus, Peter Saville), their work doesnt neglect what likes behind the lines, life and its palpitations: each record cover exposes in sculptural precision, a human body part, an extract of skin Like an eternally unfinished piece of music that feeds the thirst, rather than quenching it.

Open Air "Rue St Boniface" Sept 2006 : RAVE, WE LOVE MINIMAL.

Influences:If I could just hide
The sinner inside
And keep him denied
How sweet life would be
If I could be free
From the sinner in me

I'll never be a saint
That's not a picture that your memory paints
Not renowned for my patience
I'm not renowned for my restraint
But you're always around
You can always be found
To pick me up when I'm on the ground

If I could just hide
The sinner inside
And keep him denied
How sweet life would be
If I could be free
From the sinner in me

I'm still recovering
Still getting over all the suffering
More known for my anger
Than for any other thing
But you've always tried
To be by my side
And catch my fall when I start to slide

If I could just hide
The sinner inside
And keep him denied
How sweet life would be
If I could be free
From the sinner in me
