About Me

UPDATE:
There's a brand new night in town! The first edition of Moneytown will not be occuring on the first Friday, as all future parties will. The launch event will go down on the second Friday in July.....July 11th. This months special guest will be Dante Carfagna who will be bringing some SERIOUS DANCEFLOOR HEAT.
"Dante Carfagna has made his name as one of the world's greatest authorities on rare grooves. Hailed as a funk archaeologist, Carfagna is currently co-writing a book on the history of funk and soul with renound DJ & Producer Josh Davis, aka DJ Shadow, a partner and friend with whom he's toured the nation. He blew minds with his DJ sets at Brainfreeze (with Shadow and Cut Chemist of Jurassic 5), and then later during the Product Placement tour. A major contributor to & editor for record collector bible Wax Poetics Magazine, he also runs Memphix records, a respected label that issues 45s (each restricted to a release of 500 copies) as well as compilations such as 2003's acclaimed 'Chains + Black Exhaust' CD. Memphix is also home to Express Rising, Dante's beautifully produced instrumental lp which has gained a large cult following since it's release in 2003."
Born and raised in the DC area, this music fanatic began his DJ career while attending James Madison University. In those golden days, Nite's partners in crime included DJ's Form and Hill B, and his forte was rocking the college Breakdancing events, houseparties, and shows. Before graduation, he experimented with music production for both himself and hip hop artists "Indigenous Womb", producing 2 cuts off their first LP.
When Nite returned home from college, what had once been occasional record shopping adventures had mutated into a time consuming and ultimately (irrational?) crate digging addiction. Searching for that next mind expander became the ultimate rush....with nothing quite as appealing as independently released RAW funk.
Fast forward to present day, (after a massive expansion of vinyl in the basement lair), and you'll find Nite hosting DC's longest running Funk*UptempoSoul*Carribean*Disco*Afrobeat party at Cafe Saint Ex, dubbed HEAT, showcasing the crates of both himself and monthly special guests.
Nite also hosts BREAKIN' GLASS his booty-shake oldschool hiphop*80s*funk*Electro*night at Wonderland,(every third Saturday of the month and always completely off the hook!!), and BIONIC, the newest funk, soul, carribean and afro-beat dance party in DC! (Every 1rst Thursday of the month at Bourbon in Adams Morgan) In addition, Nite makes numerous guest appearances at clubs/venues up and down the East Coast. His events have been featured in everything from the Washington Post to On Tap Magazine. In January of 2008 he was nominated for a WAMMY (Washington Area Music Association) award, the category being DJ.
When not DJing, Nite engrosses himself in music research and "development". His quest for elusive soul recordings has left him with a plethora of local material; each new discovery becoming a stepping stone towards deeper (and rewarding) obscurity. Based on this material, he has already launched a website documenting local soul related labels and artists ( www.dcsoulrecordings.com ), and will release a book detailing both the DC soul scene and the culture surrounding it during the 60s, 70s and 80s, numerous articles, re-releases of previously cut material, (this process has already started, the most recent release was the MUGO 45 with Kenny Dope on his Kay-Dee records label: (www.kaydeerecords.com/Discography/mugo2 ), and new releases of never before heard recordings. The Nitekrawler never sleeps.
