Ethno-Celt Worship: An Eclectic, Indigenous Fusion

About Me

Hi - Andy here,

Let me tell you a quick story about dolphins.

I had this amazing experience once when dolphins showed up in the middle of a worship song, here in Ireland of all places!

Influences: In no particular order all these artists have varying degrees of influence on me - some because of a quirk of birth (i.e. being alive in Ireland in this generation), others because of a personal relationship in some form or other and others simply because they're on my iPod at the minute - anyway here goes.

U2
REM
Sting
Brian Doerksen
Kathryn Scott
The Undertones

Sounds Like: What does it sound like?
Imagine Sting meets The Waterboys they go down to a local Irish pub and play a worship session with Kevin Prosch - that's what it sounds like!
It sounds like Ethno-Celt Worship.
What on earth is that I hear you ask?
It's Christian worship flavoured with an eclectic fusion of various indigineous, celtic and contemporary sounds. Most my regular band are from Ireland or Scotland hence the tinge of Celtic influence and energy.
The line up varies depending on gig or session but commonly includes: Djembe, Bodhran, Cello, Violin, Guitars and Vox. It's not uncommon to also hear Didgeridoo, Keyboards and lots of percussion stuff that shakes, rattles, tinkles, scratches and more.
The tracks you are listening to above (I Have Come To Realise & Lord You Are) are taken from an album called the New Celts on the EMI/Kingsway label. It featured 4 Northern Irish artists; Robin Mark, Brian Houston, Joanne Hogg (from the band Iona) and myself.
'Yahweh' is a Dean Salyn song that I recorded with EMI/Kingsway at a live 24 hour worship event I'm involved in called Engage (www.engage24.net) look out for the Engage24 album - enjoy!
If you're curious about why the 'Ethno-Celt' inspiration is so important then join the mailing list and I'll fill you in with the details from the closing chapters of the world's best ever selling book!
Cheers - Andy
