As a young boy, he enjoyed listening to classical music. Soon after Tigran's 9th birthday, he was enrolled in music school. His parent's chose the flute for him, and after struggling with the instrument initially, he grew to love it.In 1998, Tigran and his family moved to Los Angeles. During the summer of 1999 Tigran attended Wildwood Music Institute. Soon after, he began his studies at the Lark Conservatory in Glendale CA. In 2001 he was one of eight outstanding students chosen to appear as a soloist with the Lark Orchestra. He graduated in 2005 with a Diploma in Performance.Tigran was the first place winner of the AAAA (Armenian Allied Arts Assn.) Competition in 2002. He has also participated in Junior Bach Festival in Dominguez Hills, CA in May of 2004. Professionally, he has performed with the Pasadena Community Orchestra. In 2006 Tigran participated in a masterclass with Dr. Shelley Collins in Seattle WA. On July 12, 2007 Tigran participated in Long Beach Flute Institute where he played in a masterclass with Dr. Barcellona. He also participated in 28th Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival held in Alaska from July 15-29. From August 5-19, 2007 Tigran participated in Idyllwild Music Festival where he played in the Wind Ensemble which performed at the world famous Walt Disney Concert Hall. In summer of 2007 Tigran auditioned for one of the oldest and most unique young people's symphony orchestras in the United States the Jr. Philharmonic Orchestra of California; he got accepted and has played with the orchestra since September 2007. On November 11th 2007 Tigran participated with the orchestra in the International Youth Orchestra Festival witch was organized by Los Angles Philharmonic at the world famous Walt Disney Concert Hall. He has also been a member of the NFA (National Flute Association) since September 2005.Tigran has studied with Paul Taub, Laura Osborn, Christina Badalyan and Tina Burr. Tigran Arakelyan has also studied conducting with Michael Avetissian the former principal conductor of the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra and many such great orchestras. He is currently on a scholarship at CSU Long Beach, Bob Cole Conservatory of Music studying with Dr. Barcellona. In the beginning of 2008 Tigran joined the great fusion jazz band Vericles from Southern California. Currently he is working to establish Diatonic Theory a Nu-Jazz band with composer-pianist Ashot Kartalyan.
