About Me

I am the co-author (with Robert McDonald) of A Field Guide to Gay and Lesbian Chicago (Lake Claremont Press) and the author of four biographies of pop stars (Billboard Books / Virgin U.K.). My work has also appeared in the books Out in All Directions (Warner Books) , Best Date Ever: True Stories that Celebrate Lesbian Relationships (Alyson), and forthcoming in Best Lesbian Romance 2009 (Cleis), and in the Harrington Lesbian Literary Quarterly, Out Magazine, The Advocate, Diva, Girlfriends, and Curve. I'm pursuing an MFA in Fictiion Writing at Columbia College Chicago and work as a publicist for Women & Children First Bookstore. Furthermore, I am a frequent contributor to the Chicago Reader, and the City Editor of the Not For Tourist's Guide to Chicago. With my friend (and literary dynamo) Owen Keehnen, I edit the annual Windy City Times Pride Literary Supplement, which has featured, over the years, an international bevy of acclaimed queer writers, as well as introducing many brand new voices. If all that's not enough, I also curate Women & Children First's Sappho's Salon series, and this fall I begin as adjunct faculty in the Fiction Department of Columbia College.

My Interests

Extra-fine point pens, reading, global politics, poetry, otters, writing, Paris and other French things, running in 5K races, independemt bookstores, talking philosophy, teaching, cooking super fancy-like gourmet meals, Radio Nova France, shoes, giraffes, art museums, Nikki... That about covers it.
