About Me

What the Beach Test Says About You
You like people, but you're careful about who you get close to. Friendship is important to you... so important that you aren't just friends with anyone.

You don't fall in love easily. It takes you a long time to get used to someone. Intimacy doesn't come easily for you.

You are a deep and contemplative person. You are as passionate as everyone else, but your passion is not always apparent.

Your sense of humor is intellectual and obscure. Only really well educated people get your jokes. The Beach Test

My Interests

gender, sexuality, race, class, feminism. queerness and kink. performers of all kinds, but especially drag kings, queens, princes and princesses; burlesque performers; las vegas showgirls; contortionists; circus performers, and the like. academics of the feminist kind.

I'd like to meet:

Tight-rope walkers and circus performers. I want to learn different ways of moving my body in space.Peeps who live in Columbus, Ohio, and share some of my interests. Let's potluck or something.

Music:

right now i'm loving the be good tanyas and the cliks. always and forever? tori amos.

Movies:

magnolia, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, dirty dancing, labrynth, life is beautiful, quills, secretary, sliding doors, goonies, kill bill, monsoon wedding

Television:

cheaters! (i should've written my thesis on the rhetoric that is espoused on "cheaters" because it is fascinating...) sex & the city, and right now i am totally engrossed in nip/tuck.

Books:

i do authors, because if i like something someone's written, i tend to read everything they've put out there. dorothy allison, jeanette winterson, toni morrison, judith halberstam, jasper fforde, anna camilleri, andrea dworkin, laura kipnis, eli clare, alice walker, patricia hill collins, simone debeauvoir, dorothy roberts, cherrie moraga, jeffrey eugenides (though i might be the only person who thinks that "the virgin suicides" is a much better novel than "middlesex")

A Photo-mentary

I decided to take my camera out today so that I can show you all some of the local C-Bus flavor...This is my neighbor's garage. I don't know what a "robot house" is exactly, but I think it sounds awes...

An update of sorts

Well. I have almost been in C-bus (what the locals call Columbus, so you know) for an entire month at this point. Apartment-wise, I am still waiting on a working washer and dryer (grrr...), but I do h...

Adventures in Columbus-land.

The trip to Columbus was rather uneventful, although a 16 foot truck dragging a car on an autobed trailor is not exactly built for speed, so what should've been a 6 hour trip (4 and 1/2, if you ask La...

Interesting Observation from Mom

On the 7+ hour jaunt to Columbus, my mom and I were alone in her car and at one point she quietly stated the following observation: "You seem happy." "Oh?... What do you mean?" I was ne...

Maizy.

Yesterday was a scary day. I took Maizy into the vet for some bleeding from the gums and a bloody eye, only to be told that she was in need of immediate 24 hour emergency care because her symptoms wer...

Jeanette Winterson always knows.

"You rolled over so that I could stroke your back. Sex between women is mirror geography. The subtlety of its secret - utterly the same, utterly different. You are a looking-glass world. You are the h...

Seal - Penguin Love: God bless the BBC for only covering the truly important news!

I heart supposedly objective, unbiased science reporting! How many human gender and sexual stereotypes can you find in this article?   On another note, the writing in this piece is, once again, r...

On yesterday.

People take so much for granted, but mostly I think we take time for granted -that there will always be more of it, another chance, another opportunity to do or say whatever's in one's heart. Th...

What I love.

Every time I push myself further - force myself to be in a position where I'm not 100% comfortable for whatever reasonĀ - it works out better than I could've ever imagined. I am stretching, and it feel...
