Funny how the mind can play tricks on you. For example, in total darkness your eyes begin to see things that are not there. So you shut them, you close them tight in hope that these apparitions will go away. But then your ears come into play, hearing things. So you cover your ears and hum to drown out the sounds of things not there. But then you feel your flesh crawling, like hands grabbing, pinching, tugging at you. At this point, you smell the urine you've just expelled and taste the bile rising up your throat. You cannot trust your senses. Leave it up to the mind to create your greatest fears.
But not all fears are produced by the mind, although sometimes it may seem that way. Like a voice inside your head. You think, this voice knows me well so it must be a creation of my own mind, right? But what if it's not? But that cannot be, you say. Monsters and demons do not exist. There is no boogieman. There is no creature that goes bump in the night, right? That's how you reason things, right? And yet, in total darkness you cower and hide under bed sheets. You hide from the things you tell yourself do not exist. You hide because you know you're wrong.

Sunset. Long shadows begin to creep and crawl, devouring all that is familiar. Leaving only ashen husks of shapes and figures. One would like to think, I'm safer in the dark. For whatever hunts me, I cannot see, and it, in return, cannot see me. But the shadows have eyes that cut through any perception of security and teeth that cut through flesh and bone. When darkness finally encompasses all that it touches, there is nowhere safe to hide.

Alice, having just celebrated her fourth birthday, is having a delightful time playing out in the yard with her most favorite of all gifts, a fluffy white bunny. Little does she know, as she chases the tiny creature around, that she is about to embark on a journey. She is about to be transported into a world much different from her own. As she crosses into the street, she takes one final glimpse at the world she knows in the form of a speeding car.
Her innocence will keep her safe. Her ignorance will give her courage. But when the veil of this new world falls away to expose the awful truth, Alice will realize her journey is much more than the search for her lost pet. It will be a struggle for the keeping of her soul.
