Born to a improverished noble family on January 29, 1499. My mother died when I was five years old, so my father remarried. Daughters were expensive, and the new wife didn't like me all that much, so father placed me into a convent. I took vows at the earliest age possible, and that was to be my life. But thanks be to God! The Dear Doctor Luther posted his protest against Rome. We heard about it in the convent, and I couldn't believe it! I did not need to be a nun -- I was justified by faith, and not by works. So, on the eve of Easter, 1523, I and eleven other nuns escaped from the convent at Nimbschen. What a happy Easter it was! The other nuns had families or married shortly, but I did not. I worked and lived at the house of the painter, Lucas Cranach. I was briefly engaged to Jerome Paumgartner, but his parents did not approve. Luther looked and looked for a husband for me. He settled on Pastor Glatz. I did NOT approve. I sent him a message: "I will only married Amsdorf or Luther." Luther, for some mysterious reason, married me on June 13, 1525. It was during the Peasants' War and many, many people disapproved, included Philipp Melanchthon. He thought I had seduced him! Erasmus told the world I was pregnant and about to deliever. Well, Philipp came around and I was not pregnant. When I did become pregnant, Erasmus defended me against charges that I was carrying the anti-Christ. I am the proud mother of six children, four who survived me. Johann, Elisabeth, Magdalena, Martin, Paul and Margareta. Elisabeth and Magdalena preceded the dear doctor and myself to the presence of the Lamb. Our house was constant activity, and I cooked and cleaned so that students had something to eat. I also made sure that the dear doctor did not give away all our money. It was a terrible thing when the Lord took him from me in 1546. I missed him dearly and I lived in near poverty. The Emperor conquered our lands and tried to re-impose the papist superstition on us. The plague came, and I had to flee. I was involved in a wagon accident, and I died in Torgau in 1552.
