Rachel Passé and Hushpuppy met at the Glasgow School of Art in 2004. Hushpuppy was a dj starting a club nite with his friend hifi sean and Rachel Passé was entertainments convener at the GSA student association.
The Record Playerz project was initially an offshoot of the eponymous club, an excuse to make fun & trashy pop-punk to play on the night – a contemporary equivalent to the B-52s, X-ray Spex, Sylvester, Gary Glitter. The music was intended to sound like those fantastic yet disposable records you could throw yourself around to on the dance floor, but find yourself whistling the next day.
RACHEL PASSÉ - vocals, percussion. Rachel was one of the most successful entertainments conveners for the Glasgow School Of Art during her two year tenure. She was responsible for the first shows of groups including Franz Ferdinand and Scissor Sisters. Rachel now runs Passé Promo, organizing long running Sunday night institution Optimo, and managing electronic act Errors. She also performs with her country music project Rachel Graham & The Dead Pets.
HUSHPUPPY - composition, vocals, instruments. Hushpuppy has worked as dj and promoter, running some of Glasgow’s most challenging and successful club events. He also worked for 10 years at the press agency Mingo PR for artists including Peaches, Alter Ego and Headman. He is a freelance Arts PR, continues to DJ in Glasgow and runs the Record Playerz club at the Glasgow School of Art.
