SpeakEasy... coming soon

About Me

I was born and raised in East Nashville, TN - not the most favorable circumstances growing up but at least it gave me character and perspective. I went to Nashville School of the Arts for high school and found my passion: music. At NSA, I learned how to play music in different kinds of groups. Now I'm trying to wrap up this music business degree at MTSU. My primary instrument is the Drum Set, but I am a songwriter too, so I play keys or guitar when I write. I'm the bandleader for a Funk/Soul group called SpeakEasy. Let's see... what else? I care about the world around me; injustice bothers me, and I'll always be loud about what I believe.... uhm?? I appreciate the little things in life. There's more, but this is MySpace not MyBiography.

My Interests

music, history, the TRUTH about things (sometimes not all that convenient), social concerns,

I'd like to meet:

...more people who inspire me..... and the person who's gonna make me rich.

Music:

There are two types of music: good and bad. I just call it like I see it. My love is R&B (not the s%*# they try to pass off as R&B on radio and TV though), but I basically like all things soulful or funky. And, yes, they are different; music can be funky but not soulful, soulful but not funky, funky AND soulful, or - God forbid - neither funky nor soulful, a tragedy indeed.

Movies:

Dumb and Dumber, Forest Gump, Count of Monte Cristo, Ray, Napolean Dynamite, war movies, stuff like that.

Television:

History Channel, Discovery, MXC, YouTube allows me to bypass MTV, VH1, and BET. The country stations are holdin' it down with the videos though. I don't watch news anymore; I can get that that online.

Books:

Catcher in the Rye, Outsiders, The Good Earth, Puddin' Head Wilson, Oedipus the King, Crime and Punishment, MacBeth, Life is a Contact Sport.

Heroes:

Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Earl Palmer (he gave us the backbeat), ?uestlove, high school music teacher Mr. Richard Griffin (he's the man), my mother.

My Blog

Good to be here

I don't do a whole lot of blogging, but I just thought I'd take time to write a little something. I have had a pretty interesting week, and all I keep saying now is, "I'm just glad to be alive." And t...

Here goes...

Well..... I quit my band a while back so I could focus on this other project. Right now I have two writing partners. One is a choreographer who is in a big transition - opening up a new dance studio. ...
