The Sound:
Labeling Deloris exudes a striking musical confidence that is quickly generating an electrifying buzz. Their energetic performances and sexy poise unify the spontaneity of jazz, the directness of Delta blues, the rhythmic vitality of Fender-driven rock, and the forceful expressiveness of today's best Indie goddesses. The result: a cohesive collaboration that is nothing less than the alternative to alternative rock. They lead listeners away from the usual self-absorption of popular music and into a world of fun ambiguity and passionate fervor, proving that sing-a-long melodies can have depth. Their music is not a composite of four individuals but rather four individual visions that create a seamless entity, Labeling Deloris.
The History:
Labeling Deloris was formed when two music management majors (Catawba College, Salisbury, NC) realized they could not win a battle of the bands armed with a voice and an acoustic guitar. So vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Jennifer Reiff and guitarist/songwriter Jason Rigney recruited Andrew Boudouris and bassist Brad Rigney to create the alternative-jazz-pop-rock band that’s first public performance, Battle of the Bands at City Stage/Level 5 in Wilmington, NC against more than fifty other bands, resulted in a demanding victory. Also, that year, their first self-recorded single, “Know Where You Are†was a national finalist in the John Lennon Song-Writing Competition.
The Present:
After a year long stint in the Music City (Nashville, TN), Labeling Deloris pressed their devotion to the limit. Strapped with “For the Sake of Delorisâ€, the band’s first EP, they took to the road to conqueror the US of A. Much to their surprise, not only did they survive for more than four months, they came out ahead, deciding to relocate to their native east coast roots, Wilmington, NC, where in just six short months they have found themselves in newspapers, magazines, and on television. As a NextMedia favorite, Labeling Deloris has discovered Wilmington radio domination on SURF 98.3 as well as Rock 104.5 and Z 107.5. Other radio success has been found in Charlotte, Nashville, New Haven, New York, and Chicago along with other cities and countless web stations and satellite stations. Along with the airplay, Labeling Deloris has been named one of the Myspace Top 10 Artists in North Carolina and asked to perform at the state’s biggest events including Wilmington’s Wing Fling, Azalea Festival, and SURF 98.3 Birthday Blowout, among many others.
The Future:
“What is impressive about this band is not only their music or their accomplishments, but their approach toward the hidden things that make a band successful...they have dedicated their lives in the pursuit of their dreams†(Jeff Reid, The Beat Magazine March 2007). Playing for a consistently growing fan base and thousands of CDs independently sold amongst a mountain of other accomplishments, Labeling Deloris sees themselves in full sprint on flat terrain.
