Sleep Well, Sleep Long

The Orchid formed during the winter of 2005. At first there were only two members Haley Thomas (violin and vocals) and Derrick Dixon (guitar and piano). The two worked for almost two years writing and composing numerous tunes derrived from eclectic influences such as: PJ Harvey, Sarah Slean, The Cranberries, Sarah Harmer, traditional scottish music, old time country and indie rock.
After a long search for other musicians, bassist Jon Harvey and drummer Ryan Gray joined the band. Now with a full line up, the group comes across full, dark and energetic on stage. The music has evolved into a highly emotional live experience with expressive lyrical content and enthusiastic musicianship. The songs themselves are very accessible to a wide demograph and can be translated for a stripped down coffe house atmosphere or a louder and larger club event.
Haley Thomas is a sound engineer by trade and recorded The Orchid's debut album at The Sound Market in Halifax, NS. The recording is scheduled to be released on Aug 9th @ Gus' Pub in Halifax, accompanied by a series of release events in the summer.
