The band Aftersilence saw the light of life in one of the First years of the new millennium, this happened at coffeeshop Birdy in Haarlem. (To all you non Dutch people that wish to know: they do sell that green stuff over there.) There a young pressed man named Andres strayed around in a somewhat buzzed state of mind; he kept bothering this dude with long hair with the same remark over and over: I can sing. The dude his name is Olaf had just decided to retire from making and playing Music. This was something he couldnt use. Olaf asked him if he could produce a few tones with that self proclaimed singing voice of his; just to get rid of Anders and his constant rambling. After that moment Olaf decided to postpone his musical retirement.
(by the way Anders means different in Dutch, cause thats what he is.)
The band name was made up very quickly: After The Silence, there was however at least one more band with that name. Olaf and Anders eventually settled with Aftersilence. Second: what kind of music will this band play? Most of the times I was fed up with a band within three years time says Olaf. One of my band mates would be like: lets write another death metal song. I would be like no not again. I want to do something a little different now. And so it happened. Heavy music would be a determining factor, however: other musical styles and genres can and will be incorporated if that need exists.
We describe our music as nu metal but not only because we find inspiration in bands from that genre. Nu metal is a genre where various styles and genres meet and get mashed up; where they are combined. We that is very important, metal can be the main ingredient for this but any other genre will do (if we feel like it that is.) Taking the freedom to change your genre is also a part of this. In this sense nu metal in not a style or genre to us but a way of thinking. A philosophy. So far this way of working has brought us music with influences from bands such as Fear Factory, Frozen Sun, Nine Inch Nails and Incubus. On top of that it has brought us semi acoustic songs with influences from songwriters such as Keziah Jones. At this point in time we are working with several guest musicians and there are several ideas/plans that will be executed in the near future. Guitarist Olaf: this band will release at least on Reggae track. Someday
We have chosen to write our drums and other musical arrangements - on the computer; this is because of the fact that we use more than one style. Just try to find a drummer that wants to play all those styles in just one band is a remark that is often made remark by the band. After the coming and going of several bass players the band found a stable man on the low end in their good acquaintance L-MO. He introduced the band to hiphop/metal/musicjunkie Tarik; he has been their DJ/turntablist/sampler ever since.
Thing were starting to work. Several shows in local venues brought the band praise from their audience; there was however, one problem. Anders his busy schedule work and school did not allow him to spend the very necessary time on the band that was needed. He is on a sabbatical from the band but will return in time. Anders` absence is no reason for the other members to just sit around and do nothing. In may 2006 the bands first album Fear Of Being Nobody was released where they get vocal support from several friends such as rapper Beer (which means Bear in Dutch), poet Alex and vocalist Suzanne aka Suuz. This period also marked the break up with bass player L-MO. We have had one audition but unfortunately that didnt work out.
We are still playing live and new songs are about to be released (such as Mass Hate, see mediaplayer.) We are once again working with Beer but also with rapper Ace (BLUNTwRAP). You can be dead sure to hear a few things when the Silence ends.Layout Provided By FreeCodeSource.com
