John’s name is synonymous with the dance scene in Asia and his after hours parties in Tokyo have achieved legendary status in the dance music community.Based in Japan since the early 90’s, he was one of the driving forces behind Juliana’s Tokyo. Thereafter, he branched out into the pop scene and has had a successful recording career, released seven solo albums and had number one hits both as artist, producer & remixer. Concurrently to this, he helped launch a huge US $40,000,000 club for the Avex Group, Velfarre and was subsequently added to the board of directors.Nine years ago, John decided that he had drifted too far from his roots. In a move that shocked many, he quit all activities with the exception of dee-jaying. (This included his own dance music show on MTV Japan, a nationally heard radio show, concert tours, videos, personal appearances etc. If you include all the albums on which John has worked, he has accumulated CD sales in excess of 2 million units!!). John says, “I had a bit of an epiphany really, I woke up one morning and realized that I had moved too far away from being a DJ. I knew that I had to put everything else aside for a while and fully focus on being a DJ”. From that point on, things changed dramatically. John wanted nothing more than to gain the respect of the notoriously hard-to-please Tokyo club scene. This meant a return to basics, and a long hard journey.A lot has happened in the last nine years, club promoters both in Japan & as far away as Australia & the US know now that when they book John, they book one of the best club DJ’s in the world. John’s successful “Planet Love” event in Tokyo regularly drew 1600 sweaty clubbers, not bad when you consider it started at 5.30am and went on until way after lunch! Such was the reputation of the event that many of the top dj’s from the international circuit were drawn to play there, including:-Ferry Corsten John “00” Fleming Johan Geilen Quivver Jon the Dentist DJ Tiesto Scott Bond DJ Taucher Ashley Casselle Trixta Johnny Vicious Alex Gold Robbie Nelson Tim Lyall Garry White Trisco Andy Farley Guy Ornadel DJ Starecase Orkidea Paul Masterson John Kelly Sarah G DJ Thief & DJ Odyssey DJ Jam X & De Leon BK Stimulant DJ’s Armin van Buuren Megara & DJ Lee Dumonde Rank 1Sadly, on January 1st 2007, the lights went down on the huge Velfarre mirror ball for the last time. The mundane reason for the closure was that the lease expired on the land.June 14th 2003, John hosted & performed at the ‘World Peace Music Awards” in Bali. He also produced the opening theme and the television broadcast has been screened in more than 100 countries around the world. He reprised the role in September 2004 in San Francisco for the 2nd event.2007 has been a busy year so far with John racking up more airmiles than ever. John has had a successful series of events in China and has returned to TV screens in Japan with regular appearances on SMAP X SMAP. John will soon host the Dubai Desert Rhythm Festival and is currently back in the studio working on a collaboration with an extremely well known name in the dance field. Watch this space!Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore and the Philippines – with his contemporary style that blends elements of House, Electro Trance & Hard-Dance, John guarantees to provide a huge uplifting experience to any venue he plays in.©Publicity Houndz, Tokyo September 2007
