Comedy, music, anything related to Japan
Human beings?
Ben Folds, Jlll Sobule, Milt Jackson, Lionel Hampton, Elvis Costello, The Quiet, Loudon Wainwright III, Colin Hay, Travis, Keane, Neil Finn, Jon Brion, Ben Lee, Joe Henry, Pet Shop Boys, The Smiths, Johnny Cash, bossa nova, hip hop, ... and an almost infinite number of other types of music.
The Twilight Samurai, His Girl Friday, The Conversation, Next Stop Wonderland, The Red Violin, Shall We Dance (the Japanese one, not the remake), the original Pink Panther movies, Clueless, Tampopo, A Taxing Woman, Remains of the Day, Lost in Translation, The Lives of Others.
Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, The Wire, The Office, Yes Minister, Yes Prime Minister, the Naked Trucker and T-Bones Show, Your Show of Shows, The Closer, Grosse Pointe, Cupid (the short-lived show starring Jeremy Piven, not the more recent reality show) ... most of these aren't on the air anymore, unfortunately.
Mysteries, grammar books, slang dictionaries, books about writing, biographies, Japanese literature, anything by George Pelecanos or Dennis Lehane, and poetry. Plus Paul Feig's books "Kick Me" and "Superstud." And maybe a self-help book or two on a subject like getting rid of clutter or the reasons I'm still single that my friends are afraid to tell me. (Yes, that's a real book: "Why You're Still Single: Things Your Friends Would Tell You If You Promised Not To Get Mad." Unfortunately, if this book is any indication, it looks like my friends wouldn't have very much practical advice on this subject even if they thought I wouldn't get mad.)
