In the beginning of 2004, long time friends ECHONOMIST, MR. LOOKMAN and PALE PENGUIN decided to form the Breaks/Tech-House project THE SCIENTIFICS. Being very popular in Thessaloniki’s underground electronic music scene they have decided to combine their knowledge and creativity in order to produce quality electronic music for the dance-floor and for home listening.
ECHONOMIST is a respected producer and dj in Greek electronic scene many years now. He has formed the band ??F?, which have contributed tracks to many Greek compilations and they have released the album «??F?» on PLUS RECORDS and the album «???????????» on V.I.M. RECORDS. They have done live gigs to many places throughout Greece and many festivals like URBAN RHYTHM FESTIVAL, SYNCH FESTIVAL 2005. Additionally he was a partial member of the electro project DECADES (they have released one album for POETA NEGRA RECORDS), he produces his own Tech-Dub influenced music (he has released the EP “LOOKING FOR AN ANGEL†for the net-label DIGILOG RECORDS, he has contributed tracks to “PLAYGROUND RECORDS VOL.1 & VOL.2†and “ECHOBEAT†compilations, he has released a remix for Austalian BELLARINE RECORDS and the single “BLACK WINDOW†for V.I.M.TECH RECORDS), and he produces Minimal and Tech-House tunes together with MR.LOOKMAN for the LOOKMAN AND ECHONOMIST project (they have contributed the track “Biscotek†to “ONE NATION 2†compilation on ???? RECORDS, they have released a Tech-House remix for CAMEL TOE’s “MOONTRACK†on PLASTELINE RECORDS, and a Minimal-Tech remix for NICE’s “ANZYMES†on V.I.M.TECH RECORDS), for the PETTER PANN project (they have released the single “Digital Action†on V.I.M.TECH RECORDS) and for THE CLERKS project (they have released the single “Wish I Was A Dolphin†on V.I.M.TECH RECORDS). As dj he had performed to various clubs/bars throughout Greece, he had performed to VERSION FESTIVAL 2005, and he is a resident dj in Thessaloniki’s best underground bar ELVIS and in club LIEBE.
MR. LOOKMAN is one of the most popular musicians of Thessaloniki’s underground electronic music scene. He was playing guitar to many bands (he was for many years a member of the legendary rock band XAXAKES, he was a member of the Electronic Nu-Lounge/Pop band SCOPITONE) and the last two years he is a permanent member of ??F?. Additionally he produces his own Minimal-Tech music (he has contributed tracks to “PLAYGROUND RECORDS VOL.1 & VOL.2†compilations, he has released a single for ESCADA RECORDS, a remix for TIMEWARP MUSIC and the single “Station 1†on V.I.M. RECORDS), and he produces Minimal and Tech-House tunes together with ECHONOMIST for the LOOKMAN AND ECHONOMIST, the PETTER PANN and THE CLERKS projects. As dj he had performed sets to various clubs and bars throughout Greece, he had performed in REWORKS FESTIVAL 2005, and he’s resident dj in bar ELVIS and club LIEBE.
PALE PENGUIN is one of the best Greek Freestyle/Breaks djs. He has organized hundreds of parties and events, he has took part in many festivals throughout Greece (SOLA LUNA, URBAN DANCE, REWORKS 2006), he has done warm-up sets for many international dj’s and bands like KID LOCO, DJ MUSHROOM (MASSIVE ATTACK), RICHARD DORFMEISTER, URSULA 1000, MALENTE, FRANK POPP, MINUS 8, ANDY SMITH, BJORN TORSKE, AIDAN LAVELLE, HOOVERPHONIC, THIEVERY CORPORATION, MEAT KATIE, LEE COOMBS, LEE BASS, BREAK THE BOX etc. in Greece and other countries (he was special guest in London’s CLUB MONTEPULCIANO, and London’s Tiki/Exotica bar SOUTH LONDON PACIFIC). He was a respected radio producer for many radio stations (88,5FM, SUPER FM, REPUBLIC 100,3 FM), and he writes music reviews and articles for FREEZE MAGAZINE, SOUND MAKER MAGAZINE, CRAWFORD MAGAZINE and MACEDONIA newspaper. He has released music with the project POZITRONIC RAY, with the Breaks project HOLOGRAPHIC (their “Hungarian track†was included in the compilation “ELECTRO TIPâ€), and he’s a resident dj in bar ELVIS and in club LIEBE.
THE SCIENTIFICS sound is a Breaks/Tech-House combination with drops of electronica and minimal aesthetics. They have released the limited white label 12†“MANSON DREAMS†(their own version of The Eurythmics classic “Sweet Dreamsâ€), a split limited white label 12†(The Scientifics “Tainted Dirty Love Breaksâ€/Etostone vs Stama “Out Of Touchâ€), a remix for DIMDJ’S “Debris†on Greek Electro/Techno/Electronica label RELAX RECORDS, a remix for BEAUTY SCHOOL’S “Suicide†on UK/Greek Breaks and Dirty House label ERASE RECORDS, a remix for CLAAS REIMER’S “Badass†on German Breaks Label BASSTARD RECORDS, a remix for LARS MOSTON’S “So Bad†on ERASE, the single “DARK BEAUTY DEEP IN THE OCEAN OF TIME†on USA label GROOVEBOX RECORDS, the single “KICK ASS BELLSâ€, a remix for ELECTRIC SOULSIDE’s “Lick my Dancefloor†and a remix for 2CRUSH’s “The Funk Next Door†single on V.I.M.BREAKS RECORDS. They run their own Breaks/Tech-House/Electronica label V.I.M. RECORDS (Very Important Music), they have organized many parties and events, they have took part in SYNCH FESTIVAL 2005, in REWORKS FESTIVAL 2005, in PRE-REWORKS EVENT 2006, in BUTTERFLY FESTIVAL 2007 and FESTEN FESTIVAL 2008 with outstanding live performances.
