About Me

..about me myspace.. .. .. A little South Park, a little Merchant Ivory. Reformed opera singer, aspiring time traveller, web trawler, chorister, pseudo-diva, extemporaneous freestyler (well, not really, but it kinda sounds cool) and nascent educator-self and others. I've been messing about with recording software. My efforts are primitive, but you can check them out via my myspace blog. I also have an intermittent interest in asst. occultish things, so I couldn't resist: .. ..
You Are The Emperor
You are an authority figure, and other people look to you for what to do.
You are strong and powerful. Crossing you is not a good idea.
You have worked hard to get to your position, and you're not about to give it up to anyone.
Though you have a warrior heart, you are gentle to those who treat you well.
Your fortune:
In the near future, you need to be willing and able to defend those you love.
This may be the time for you to step up and be the authority figure to those around you.
It is time for you to be independent, to become your own person.
You may need to look at your relationship with your father, or your relationships as a father. What Tarot Card Are You?

Music:

..Music myspace.. .. .. a strange and sometimes questionable combination of everything.
ixnay on the ysogynymay, however. I'm all in favour of expressing one's sexuality, but bitches, ho's (but hohos are all right, I guess) and other such vocab is not something I want to promote.

I find it difficult to describe what music I like, (OK, I hate ugly voices..i'm a bit of a vocal snob...classical training has warped me...some I've gotten used to and if the music and lyrics are kickass, then who cares...well, there are a few exceptions...anyone who sings in a geriatric baby voice...very hard to get past that, even if they play harp at the same time) as I listen to many styles, sometimes with little discrimination.

Show tunes, big band, motown, barbershop quartets, church music, choral music, Art Song, opera, American top 40 fare(from cheesy-ass pop to U2) were in my musical swirling vortex growing up...with some classic rock, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Beach Boys, Can Con(Rush, April Wine) thrown in, care of my older brothers.

Classical studies expanded my classical rep, but narrowed everything else(except I lived in Quebec for a bit, so some space taken up with folk tunes, separatist ballads, someone singing about le d.j. sauvait mon âme avec cette chanson(jean leloup, i think).. and Eric Lapointe(*shudder*) and in recent years I've been trying to make up for my musical myopia.

Kind and slightly condescending boy geek indie connaisseurs have tried(sometimes in vain and with great consternation and not a little superiority...well-meaning bastards) to show me the way(which led me to MySpace) with the quality indie rock/pop/electronica music. I like boppy/poppy, dreamy electronica, rockin' pop, folky funk, bratty punk, torch song alternative, nifty harmonics, clever lyrics, social commentary, political vitriol, jump around your room and be happy to be alive music. how's that? Secret Agent radio is my favourite itunes radio indulgence. so there. take that, geek boys. No, timi, I still haven't actually added any band names.

oh-my pet project is music as social commentary/activism. check out: www.gascd.com
If your music fits the gascd ethos, I'd be happy to post a tune to the site (with your generous permission). .. ..

Movies:

..Movies myspace.. .. .. Kill Bill 1 & 2 are favourites at the moment, but I enjoy a variety of films espousing different sensibilities and styles in a multitude of languages, genres. The last movie I really loved was "Thank you for not smoking"
.. ..

Television:

..TV myspace.. .. .. I have been cozying up to the the Dr. Who spinoff, Torchwood. I'm quite enjoying that lilting Welsh accent, in addition to the extra sexy vibe of the show. My T.V. crush on VMars was sadly cut short with the end of the show. I would have liked a S4 to re-invigorate the series. I was missing some empowered hot babe martial arts action in my TV viewing, so I also breezed through all 5 seasons of Alias. I actually never got tired of those Run Lola Run outfits either. The fight choreography was also quite kickass.
Battlestar Galactica is still going strong.
'Lost' also on my escapist hotlist. It seems to have maintained its dramatic tension. While waiting for the new season to start, I finally breezed through Seasons 1 of House and Heroes. I'd actch House again due to great performances, but its formulaic approach doesn't make me want to commit. Heroes has reeled me in and am contemplating inhaling S2 before school starts up and I am immersed in marking and bullshit politics.
when I remember or am able to catch them:
Family Guy,
Strangers With Candy
Little Britain
Dearly departed shows:
Arrested Development (like delicious clever candy)
Firefly (again-the writing, acting, pathos and yummy space cowboys and girls..and the martial arts)
Buffy (yes, an unabashed lover of this series. I only followed it sporadically while it was on(as was cable-free), then was able to enjoy it in marathon sessions with the advent of T.V. on DVD). So clever, so fun, so kick-ass! with just the right amount of pathos and the supernatural.
Angel (well, needed more ass-kicking babes, but love that Joss)
XFiles
Twin Peaks
ST, the NG (Q is my favourite and any episode with a space/time continuum)
a bit of a sci-fi theme obviously
but, then:
I'll Fly Away
All in the Family...still stands the test of time. in fact, i'd say(in terms of social commentary) no show has been so insightful or pushed the boundaries more.
Soap
Prime Suspect...that Jane Tennyson!
Jane Austen alert:
Pride and Prejudice(A&E). Yup. I sure as hell wouldn't have wanted to live in the Regency period,(although I do look fetching in that empire-waisted gown) but I loved this very true to the book adaptation. I've read all her books, even the unfinished one and the epistolary one(Lady Susan). .. ..oh, I was reading someone's profile and I was reminded of The Hilarious House of Frightenstein. That show fracking rocked! The fond memories of basking in the pre-dawn glow of the television at its lowest audible volume watching that hallucinatory show. (I think that's a word. if it's not, it should be)

Books:

..books-myspace.. .. ..

i love books. i spent most of grade school and high school reading, instead of paying attention in class. i'm not indiscriminate, but I can't seem to come up with a short list at present. i'll get back to it. reading is goooood.Lately have gone looking for some Agatha Christie/Hercule Poirot, as well as John Lecarré. Solid.
