DJ LIVE OWith a DJin idol like Mampi Swift and his father being the legendary entertainer 5ive O it is no wonder Live O is a DJ with a knowledge, passion, maturity and confidence that truly translates through his music. At only 26 Live O has a record selection many his age only dream of and is able to draw tunes from back in the day right through to the here n now. His love and passion for the music shines through his mixing and when Live O takes the decks he takes you on a journey of rolllin beats, reggae twists heavy bass lines and pure sexy soulful vocals. He is a truly talented artist and a joy to listen to.Virtually bottle fed on music with heart n soul. He grew up in Hackney living with his mother, brother and sister in a house full of Reggae, soul n rare grovesAt just 8 years old Live O and his brother Wayne were already listening to Hardcore and Acid House with radio stations like Defiction, Centre Force and Sunrise firmly fixed on there FM dials. He survived the screams n hollas from his mother about the racket n that noise and followed the progression through to 92-93 and the beginning of Ragga Jungle with dances like V.I.P, Desert Storm and Voodoo magic.Now at the age of 12 Live O saved his pocket money up to buy his first tune SHUFFEL. He was a regular face at record shops like Wired for Sound and Ibiza Records on Kingsland high road and Lucky Spin in Holloway. Between him and his brother Wayne they worked together saving there pocket money for records and every Sunday took there tunes to there Uncles house where they started to teach themselves to mix.The first time he saw a pair of Technic 12 10s was at his neighbours house who happened to be DJ Ramsey Formal Force of one crew. He was 13 years old. When Ramsey found out 5ive O was their father they were invited into his house. The layout was the same as their house with this open box built into the wall of the bedroom only in his box there sat the 12-10s. Finally they knew what the box was for. After many weeks of saving their pocket money and doing a variety of odd jobs Live O and Wayne were finally the proud owners of a pair of BST PRO 90s that now sat in THEIR open box in the wall.Ibiza Records had closed down by that time and Jungle Fever Recordings in Leabridge Road had just opened. This was soon to become Live Os 2nd home. He would run errands for Eastman in return for free or discounted tunes and when a new tune came into the shop he would snatch it up n hide it before it even hit the shelf. (Now you know how come he can carry on so wicked n draw certain tune) Then at the end of the week when he got his money he would pay for them. It was at this time that Eastman gave him his name LIVE O.Live Os first rave was Lazerdrome in Peckham followed by Kool School @ Powerhouse Waterden Road. He was 15. There were now several radio stations fighting for that space on his fm dial. Kool 94.5, Fuse, Rinse, Pressure, Rush and Eruption all tore up the airways. Jungle was everywhere. There were so many dub plates coming from all directions everyone seemed to be tearin up the studios, all dances were pure road block and Jungle had gone International. Live O was always at Kool FM Studios listening, watching n studying Mampi Swift and Randall. These are his idols and they are who he based his style on.Through spending time at Jungle Fever Recordings and Kool FM Live O got to know everyone and built up his experience and knowledge. He first played out at a House party called Pure Love. This was followed by several small parties and a few bookings at Slough University. Live O was at this time spending a lot of time with Shabba they had always known each other and used to work together promoting Telepathy and other events.In 98 Live O took his first Jungle trip abroad for Tenerife Uncovered with Soul Intention. 1 week of pure partys n vibes. It was a difficult time for new artists to break into the scene in England as they already had a strong established set of artists. It was then that he decided that there were more opportunities for him abroad and in 1999 Live O travelled with Shabba to various events in Europe - Switzland, France, Germany. Then Shabba got his first booking in Canada and Live O went over with him. They worked well together and both shared the same passion for the music. Shabba wanted to do a dance in 2000 to celebrate 10 years in the business. In comes MATRIX. The two of them worked hard planning, promoting, organising, you name it they did it. Matrix was a huge success.Later on that year Live O played out in France at Intertan a large dance hosted by DJ Rudge a Ragga artist. He spent the summer of 2002 & 2003 in Anapa playing at Licence to Rave & Gas club. It was upon his return that himself, Shabba D & Simpson created Highly Blessed. The logo was designed and they brought Winston & Paul Ibiza into their camp and started touring the country for the launch and 1st event MC Convention. Live O and Simpson designed flyers, merchandise and cards to create and promote Highly Blessed and MC Convention. After spending 8 months of hard work and many miles up and down the country the launch was a huge success and both are still going strong now. The last few years Live O has been busy doing a college course in studio production and spending time producing his own material.Now in 2006 Live O has joined forces with his father 5ive O and sistrin Debbie to Form his own company Champion Promotions Ltd. He has been a huge part of the success of many large established events and feels that it is now time to put all his knowledge and experience into something that he can call his own. Live O wants to bring the artistic element back into our scene and is at present working closely with street artist to design Champion Promotions Clothing Range and merchandise. Also this year he would like to spend more time in the studio producing his own material. He feels that all the ups & downs over the years have made him stronger and only emphasized how important it is to stay true to yourself and to keep it real.
