About Me

The room where Dissolution rehearses is certainly a dissolute space. You can see the hole where someone has tried to smash their way in (or possibly out), furnishings fall apart when you look at them, the detritus of a myriad of other forgotten bands adorn the walls, and the carpet is patterned in a patchwork of questionable stains.
You'd think that such a dank space would be conducive to a band that produces such a dark and heavy sound.
"Actually it's counterproductive," reveals Jake, the guitarist for this trio. "The acoustics are really bad, and it's difficult to hear what's going on when we play."
After listening to a couple of tracks, one can see why this would be a problem. The speed and aggression of classic thrash metal in the vein of Kreator and Exodus are evident, yet the songs are also characterised by dynamic changes of tempo and fluid melody.
However, if the acoustics are a problem for the guys, tonight I couldn't tell. The performance was tight, fast and downright heavy.
Although Dissolution only formed earlier this year and are yet to play live they have a wealth of individual experience.
Drummer Mike has played in Euclid and Dark Messiah, who played alongside Australia's Atomizer.
Bassist/Vocalist Brett has played in SkullKrusher, Wet Cherry and Full Kerb among others, while Jake has guested in Dagon, and has established a local reputation as a formidable shredder.
Dissolution cite a diverse range of musical influences, though all obviously share a passion for classic thrash and death, however elements of doom and black metal can be heard. Vocals are delivered in a snarling guttural style reminiscent at times of Quorthon.
Lyrically, Dissolution reflects their band's moniker by exploring the decay and breakdown of values, beliefs and structures. "We try to mix things up, as we do have such wide tastes, yet as we write more songs it is obvious we have carved out our own sound as well," offers Brett. If what I have heard in this dark rehearsal space is any indication, then metal audiences are surely going to be impressed when these guys make their debut in on the 14th of October at the Jetset.
