This EP hits home with Skynyrdian influence and groovy riffage that – at times - delves into doom. From time to time we also hear a Sabbath influence in there, along with a smattering of hardcore (mainly in the vocals).
There are a few calmer parts to chill out to, but generally the whole album straight ahead rocks. One of the dominating things of the music is the guitar work which is an awesome combination of down-tuned brutality, whisky-soaked rug cutting breakdowns and solos.

Second Gear Grind is a rock band hailing from the south of New Zealand.
Formed in 2005 from the ashes of multiple music projects as a new beginning for the people involved, the band draws from many musical backgrounds; jazz and metal through blues, folk and straight up stoner rock. The culmination of influences forms a style which is both gripping and digestible, and accessible across a wide spectrum of audiences.
In 2008 Second Gear Grind's debut EP, “Fistful of Silverâ€, was released totally independently having been recorded under Steve Fowler of Clevetown studios in Christchurch and mastered in Chicago, US. Second Gear Grind has gained a reputation for playing loud and spirited live shows down the length of New Zealand, with an array of bands, seeking to further exposure throughout the country but also across the Tasman as part of an ever growing link between New Zealand and Australian rock bands.
Second Gear Grind has shared the stage with such bands as Looking Glass, Brant Bjork and The Bros, Cobra Khan, Slavetrader, Pod People, Soulseller, Interconnector, The Defendants, The House of Capricorn and Subtract, at events such as The Devil’s Kitchen and the annual Eyes of the South festival.
Second Gear Grind is comprised of members with playing experience in bands such as Subsidence, Vixen Execution, The Lounge Vibration, Vice of the Sky, Content To Bleed, The Fuckstains, Brutalized Mortality amidst others.
