About Me
Born in Toronto, Canada to Caribbean parnets, Shawn has been singing at an early age. The eldest of three boys, Shawn's first musical experience began at the age of 7, singing in a church youth convention choir. In 1986, he participated in his local church choir and in 1988 by the age of 12, Shawn answered the call on his life and began organizing and directing that same youth choir known now as the Powerhouse Fellowship Soul Choir.
Having a love for music, Cotterell's musical experience included recording background vocals for Sesame Street fame-Bob Mcgrath, Canadian Folk singer Rita Macneil, Gospel Music Worship Of America Youth Mass Choir, Sharon, Lois and Bram along with other local gospel choirs and groups such as Youth Outreach Mass Choir, Heart 2 Heart and Cotterell's choir Powerhouse Fellowship Soul Choir. Shawn also had the opportunity to perform at prestigious Canadain outlets such as the Massey Hall, DuMaurier Jazz Festival, Ottawa Blues Festival, Easter Seals telethon, O'Keefe Center (now the Sony Center), CBC Radio One and the Harry Jerome Awards. In addition he has shared the stage with gospel singers, Shirley Caesar, CeCe Winans, Tramine Hawkins, Fred Hammond, Kim Burrell, the Clark Sisters, Papa San, the Grace Thrillers, John P Kee and Hezekiah Walker and LFC as well as Neo soul singer Bilal.Cotterell also served as an alternate Praise and Worship leader at Revivaltime Tabernacle pastored by Reverend Audley James. And he was also part of the Praise and Worship team at Rhema Christian Ministries, under the leadership of Pastor Orim Meikle and First Lady Judith Meikle. Shawn dreams of making a lasting impact and impression on Canadian Music. " I love music and I thank God for giving me this gift. Presently, Cotterell serves as a Praise and Worship leader at New Hope Tabernacle, under the leadership of Bishop H L Martin and Reverend Bonnie Martin. Cotterell resides in Durham, Ontario with his wife Erica and son Jordan. Currently completing his music degree at Humber College.
