Running, enthralling conversations over coffee, crafty stuff, martial arts, horseback riding, music, voracious reading, coffee, quirky art, comic books, spirituality, paranormal, outdoors, belly laughs, interesting food (although mpls food can't hold a candle to San Francisco, sorry - feel free to try to convince me otherwise!)
I'd like to meet:
creative types, people with big vocabularies, liberal and open-minded weirdos, voracious readers, people to make me laugh so my cheeks hurt, running buddies, people who want more out of life than just working and watching TV at night, people who ask questions about the world and gut their own beliefs periodically.
Music:
I'm a sucker for 80s alternative music; nowadays I tend to like things like Presets, Aimee Mann, Neil Finn, the Shins, Cat Power, etc. i'm pretty narrow in genre but wide in appreciation.
Movies:
I hate "blockbuster" movies--give me movies with great dialogue, twisted situations, characters with fucked up inner lives, movies that mess with my mind, that make me chew on things for later analysis. But i also love whimsical ones, like Amelie and scifi and fantasy movies.
Television:
Robot Chicken rules!!!! Pretty much also anything else on Adult Swim.
I don't watch that much TV anymore, but I do enjoy shows like Scrubs, Lost, and crime/investigative shows. I know WAY too much are forensic pathology now. And now i wonder who is buried in my neighbor's basement. Also liked the shows that used to be on HBO - Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, Mr. Show.
Books:
Listing them off is futile as I have a large rotating stack of books - I read a ton of non-fiction books - books on technology, internet culture, sociology, psychology, paranormal, spirituality, neurology, astronomy.. I also dig graphic novels and comics - the Frank Book is a current favorite - surreal wordless cartoons. I totally dig Roz Chast, and you have to read Bigfoot-In Me Own Words.
"Ascending Peculiarity" about Edward Gorey.
"citizen marketers"
Heroes:
My heroes are all my artist friends - they've really followed their hearts and made their creative lives into their professional ones. I hope to follow their example.
