If It Sounds Good, It Is Good

About Me

Hey Everybody! Welcome to my MySpace music page. I hope you like what you hear. I am a 21-year old songwriter and performer from Birmingham, Alabama. With over eighty live performances to my credit, I've established myself as a known musician amongst the music scene in Birmingham.
I began playing drums at the age of 7, followed by guitar and bass at 10. As I became more familiar with guitar, my drumming led me forward into a group named the Inward Expedition. Originally formed by myself, and Matthew and Tommy Mayfield, Expedition quickly took off. After adding a couple of members, the group went from playing high school shows to major festivals within a couple of years. After putting down the bands' first songs on a 5-song E.P., we were able to promote ourselves with hard copy evidence. Only two years in, the band was entered into a VH1 Battle of the Bands contest. What initially looked to be a shot in the dark, resulted in Inward Expedition winning the contest for Best New Regional Band out of 200+ groups. This award afforded us a primetime show on the VH1 stage at the Beale Street Music Festival where we performed our songs in front of over 5,000 people. That same year we released a second E.P. and continued to play festivals for the next few years. Despite our success and playing over 55 shows regionally, the group members went their own ways as college came into the picture. Matthew Mayfield continued on to form Moses Mayfield .
As I came into my high school years, the rest of the band being several years older, I began focusing more on my guitar interests. I played at dozens of school events and was asked to play on the school's choir tours, allowing me the stage in places like Rice University, Northwestern, and Brooklyn, NY. Having played coffee shops, night clubs, festivals, and having worked with several bands in the studio, I have gained a great amount of experience by age 21. I have written dozens of instrumental songs in the last five years and have had the chance to record many of them which is how I'm bringing them to you here.

I have recently finished up work on a 14-song instrumental album that was digitally released in March of 2007, and is currently available for listening and/or purchasing here on MySpace. Recorded off and on between the former Audio State 55 studio and Southside's own Workplay, the project took awhile due to my time at Boston University where I've been working toward a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering since the fall of 2004.
Also, I re-entered the studio this summer to begin recording my 2nd full-length instrumental album. I hope to complete it this Winter and share it with you at the beginning of next year. Stay tuned for updates.
What you're listening to has all been written and performed by me. I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think!
~Lake
