22 year old pianist Damian Sim graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 2007 with a B.Mus in Performance (First Class Honours) and a Griffith University Medal in recognition of high academic achievement. While majoring in jazz piano, he additionally undertook classical piano instruction during the final 2 years of study.
Damian has led groups/performed at several of Brisbane's jazz events including Jazz Mix@Ric's, Moanin'@The Press Club and Jazz On A Sunday Vibe, and festivals including the Brisbane Festival 2006, Valley Jazz Festival 2007 and the Bangalow Music Festival 2007 (as part of the Con Artists, led by John Hoffman).
Between 2005-2007, Damian was a member of Brisbane salsa group Chukale. With them, he performed extensively in the Brisbane night club scene, supported Columbian/Miami super group Sonora Carruseles, backed Wilson "Saoko" Manyoma (Fruko y sus Tesos), and toured to Cairns and NSW with performances at The Bellingen World Carnival '07 and Darling Harbour Festival '07.
Damian is currently engaged in teaching/practicing/listening/writing/reading... the usual muso things! :)
