The Life & Times of Blast Vegas...

About Me

Music is the soundtrack of life. And don't get it twisted, it's always been like that. It's just that you have some individuals that are ready to take matters in their own hands. Dj Blast is one them. Born Jean Evens Bellevue, Blast grew up wanting to be not only the life of the party, but the architect of it as well. Although his upbringing wasn't very musical, since an early age he sought after it, almost as a second nature.

His first contact to hip hop music started with the movie Beat Street in 84'. A true 80's baby, he learned to break, tag and most importantly, collect music, the Fat Boys being his first record. In his teenage years he learned the guitar but it was his 15th anniversary gift that changed the course of things: his first audio-mixer. It didn't take long for Blast before the first gig and the first mixtape appeared making him the neighborhood go-to person for the hottest mixes and the brand new jams. But it didn't stop there. Blast was a big enthusiast of the battle scene from the days of the new music seminar battles and the DMC. He practiced his craft until finally got a shot at the regional title and won for three years consecutive the Montreal DMC from 1998 to 2000 and also taking the 2000 Canadian team battle with his crew, the deceptikonz, sending them off to war with the best turntablists the world had to offer at the finals in the UK.

Blast also had a part in montreal's mixtape landscape. Still in it's early stages, Blast was one of the city's first to mass market his tapes across the city and beyond. He also was the first to showcase local artists on his tapes through freestyles exposing these artists to much broader audiences. From blends, new jams to featured mc's, His mixtapes were sold out every time he released them. Not just limiting his mixes to the streets, they also have been broadcasted as well on soundbeatradio.com and satellite radio on Scott Boogie's Mixshow on galaxy (Radio-Canada).

His Club resumé is pretty impressive as well, Playing in the city's top clubs (Living, Dagobert (QC), Groove Society, Tokyo, Jet, etc) and after-hours (Sona, Aria, Circus, Red-lite) and out of town as well (Atlantis (BC) & Surface (Ott.)). Now he holds Fridays at Living Nightclub in Sherbrooke City and Saturdays at Montreal's House NightClub. His dj sets are a soulful blend of the hottest and the latest, mashing up all the latest trends and styles as well.

Blast's success lies in the fact that he managed to juggle many aspects of deejaying without compromising any of them. His aim was to be the best all-around dj. Not just a good mixtape dj or a cool club dj. While he was winning those DMC battles, He was putting out mixCD's and was all up in the club jamming the latest hits. During this time he also was laying the foundation for his production career. From producing for local heroes like Mizery & Frenchi Blanco and releasing his own album to underground Top Dogs like Main Flow & Frank & Dank all the way to landing credits on Bone-thugs & Harmony's 2006 release "Thug Stories", Blast was & is still, always on the grind.
